Welcome to Susquehannock Golf Club!
Located a few miles outside of Philadelphia, PA, the Susquehannock Golf Club is a par 70, 7,596-yard golf course that is designed to the test the best in the world on TGCTours. The golf course was originally laid out as a 9-hole course in 1911 as a small and private project by William Flynn in his early days, and was later redesigned by a combination of local architects in the mid-1940's in several stages. Much of the surrounding area is a combination of houses and undeveloped forested land. Although a local and unassuming club for much of it's life, the USGA and TGCTours took interest in the course as a possible host to a TGCTours US Open in the future, and contracted Dario Logan for a possible redesign, while keeping with the general concepts that Flynn incorporated in the original greens.
Not much of the original layout remains, but in the recent remodel, most of the forested areas were cleared out, and replaced with fescue grass that serves as the "heavy rough". However, players will generally find that the fairways and light rough are rather forgiving, as long as some thought is put into the landing area of tee shots.
The greens, however, have incorporated Flynn's signature "crowned bunkers", which have high lips that slope into the green, protecting the edges and preventing mishit shots from bouncing safely onto the greens.
There is only one hole with water at Susquehannock - the signature par-3 12th hole. However, it is put to good use, with a penninsula green jutting into a lake, defending against any mis-hit or poorly thought out shots. Some rounds will be determined on this hole alone.
There are currently two versions published -
Susquehannock GC (Major) - The definitive edition of Susquehannock - the pins are tucked, and the green speed is maxed out. This version is tricked out, unfair, artificially difficult, and ready for the best players in the world to make a mistake. Most hole locations are completely inaccessible, but birdies can be made with careful planning, patience and excellent putting.
Susquehannock GC (Tour) - The layout is the same as the Major edition above, but hole locations are more realistic, and the default green speed is also more forgiving. Although only the back tees are on this version, the course conditions can be tailored to whatever needed for PGA, Euro and Web.com Tour.
Susquehannock GC (Member) Called Susquehannock Golf Club - The casual version of Susquehannock, playing to a par 73, with the 9th, 11th and 18th holes playing as the original par 5's, and with more forgiving and realistic hole locations and greens.
Good luck to all who challenge the course in the Major version, and thank you to all of TGCTours, the judges, and other competitors in this competition. I hope everyone enjoys all the great courses that have been released!
For the US Open contest - play with the following conditions:
- All conditions default except for wind.
Round 1 - Pin Location 1 - Wind Direction SE - Low Round 2 - Pin Location 2 - Wind Direction SE - Medium
Round 3 - Pin Location 3 - Wind Direction E - Medium
Round 4 - Pin Location 4 - Wind Direction E - Medium

Played the major edition on pin 3 in some big winds. Unreal track. Looks great, plays great. Bunkering was fantastic, greens were tough but fair, and the feel of a major championship golf course was spot on. Managed a -3, and will be back again to see if I can improve upon that. Great work here.

You're an elite level designer, you don't need me to tell you this is a great track - which it is - so let me just provide a bit of feedback on playability, from a perspective that I imagine you may well disagree with, but nevertheless.... Played pin 4, and here are a couple situations/pins that had me sighing (in no particular order): Par 4, ideal drive, and have 243 carry to the pin, into a 12mph wind, with red/yellow downslope within 3-4 yards short of the pin. I played smart out to the left, think I managed to scrape by with par, but I hit an absolutely perfect shot to get it to stay on the right level - even with being way, way left of the pin so as to avoid that slope (and if the wind were 3-4mph stronger, I wouldn't have been able to reach with 2w). I get it, I think I see what you were going for, but this just felt a bit over the top.
Short par4 - again, I get it - but honestly not sure how much of this green is pin-able? Needless to say, in addition to the pinched drive, uphill, into the wind, it wasn't really possible to hold that mound where the pin is. Not outright unfair, but just seemed "forced" Here's a pin that I just don't see how to get anywhere near...
and a putt, following what I thought was a "safe" play, that I'm not sure I could have hit much softer...
Those are just a few stand out "huh" moments for me from that one round, in those specific conditions. There were also a couple of drives that I felt I wasn't rewarded on (hit middle/outside of fairway, harsh bounce into heavy rough on the other side of fairway from what looked to be the ideal drive), but didn't think to record those.
Hope this is taken as intended, just playability feedback from a single persons point of view - meaning, not at all bashing the course (as is the common jump-to-conclusion around here too often). Overall enjoyed the challenge, had fun trying out a few shots and attempting to figure out you're thinking as to why you put certain pins is certain spots given a greens sloping. There were just a few that I couldn't really figure out a "why" for, hence my feedback, and hope it comes across in the constructive way in which it's intended. Great job, and best of luck in the contest, though I doubt you'll need it!

csugolfer60Just for clarity sake, it is the major version you are entering in the contest, correct? That's what I'm assuming, but want to make sure.

Took on the Sunday set as well. I'll definitely have to run it again when my form is better. I didnt really have a problem with the pins, even the impossible one because it will be equally impossible for everyone. I'm typically a fast player but this one is going to make me slow down

So I decided to give it a go using pin 3 with the conditions you suggested and was doing great until I got up on the 1st Tee I did manage to break 80 playing with no aids. The greens are very tough for sure but expected from a major course. I included my only highlight of the round. Great job man...

Just played pin 3 on stream, made 14 pars and 4 bogies. I can’t get enough of this course, I’m gonna play it until I shoot under par. Love the challenge!

Magnificent course. The lighting, heavy rough and bunkers in particular make the visuals amazing. I was one under after 7 holes, but a run of bogie, par, bogie, DOUBLE derailed my round. Finished +4. And can't wait to play again! The greens and pins are pure evil! I like that you've made a "tour" version, which I would guess is the one that will actually go on "tour" and what would (personally) be a bit more realistic for a US open as well. Definitely like the brutal nature of this incarnation though! Not sure I'll ever play the tour version, because I'll feel like a wimp if I do!

Sounds like another brutal course to try, sweet. Looks like Merion has some competition for best course in Philly.
