The 2019 US Open was always going to be on the Monterey Peninsula. But after a players' revolt upon hearing of a second tournament scheduled at Pebble Beach in the same season, the USGA found themselves in a precarious situation, electing to compromise and host the tournament at nearby Cypress Dunes instead. Set amongst groves of giant, ancient Monterey Cypress trees and playing on, over, and around the iconic windswept dunes along the Pacific, the course draws its inspiration heavily from nearby Cypress Point and the Monterey Peninsula CC Dunes course in both style and setting. The assistant to the Head Greenskeeper, Terry Grayson, has revealed to us that the future US Open venue will play to a par of 70 and come in just over 7200 yards, adding that he learned a lot from all of his mistakes during his time at The Kraken and looks forward to redeeming himself in his new position. Unlike traditional US Open setups, overpowering length and claustrophobic fairways will not be the main obstacles. Instead, players that find themselves in the wrong areas of the course's wide fairways will be hitting from a variety of awkward lies and positions that may not offer the best (or any) view of the flag. The birdie-stingy setup will feature only two par-5's in the routing, and greens that often tempt golfers to go at the pin, when a safer approach to the middle of the green is the better decision, and playing from below the pin is paramount to a good score. The challenge comes at the greens, with multiple fall away slopes and run-offs that can come into play on errant approaches depending on the day's pin, leaving the golfer to find a line of approach that can get at it the best. Course is stupid good, don't spend your contest winnings all in 1 place. Great work here Brian, truly impressive.

It was fun while it lasted... which for me was about 45 minutes since mine was the first one published, and that came crashing down with Timber Knoll, et al. The Mantis will be nothing more than a stain by the time this is over with. ;-)

Looks legit af. This theme (I’m assuming it’s the island steppe theme?) has being waiting for something like this to be done to it. I started an effort a while ago but couldn’t get it how I wanted it. Judging from the pictures here, your were able to. Well done. Pumped to play this!
Also, thanks for Fishers Island. That place is legendary.

I used to have a full head of hair. Then I played cypress dunes. Now I have none, except a few grays I comb over to pretend there's still some there. I have to leave team young guns now because of you!
