Welcome to The Animal, the toughest test in video golf that I have devised thus far. This tropical themed course is built around a shallow water/mudflat environment consisting of a complicated series of ravines, some wet, some dry. Despite all the water though, it rarely comes into play. Smart golf is the name of the game here Design Philosophy: The Animal is meant to be a mental test more than anything. Rather then relying on length, tight landing areas, or excessive hazards to create difficulty, I have simply made a course that at first glance, is not difficult at all, but use temptations of a moment of glory to cause the player to make a mental mistake. As far as protecting par goes I did very little, but birdie has an iron fortress built around it throughout the round. Staying out of trouble all but guarantees pars, but pars don't win tournaments. One example of the mental game I have employed in this course is the inverse relationship between expected hole difficulty based on yardage, and the actual difficulty. As a general rule, the 'easier' you would expect a hole to be, the harder you will find it. The shorter holes harbour treacherous greens while the longer holes offer the opportunity to drain one from downtown. I've deliberately left the bunkers shallow and topped them off with the finest powdered sand in existance. I believe it helps the course to play the way I want it to

The animal opens with a straightforward looking hole, however the size of its green along with the orientation of it makes your tee shot at least as important as your birdie putt. Hole 2 is similar in length, but in the opposite direction of the opener you're not likely to notice. The knoll in the center of the green is best managed from the left of the fairway, where you have the best line of sight and the ravine guarding short right is out of play. Hole 3 is going to land near the hardest on this course. The corner is generally not going to be cut as it is just out of reach. You'll need to have a close look at the green of you intend to stay on it. Front pins are particularly dangerous Hole 4 is the first par 3. I advise you to play for par because a big number is always on the table here. The green is completely surrounded by bunkering and the light rough has been cut back to fringe so there's nothing that's save an errant shot Hole 5 is the shortest par 4 on the course. Don't let the lighting tricks fool you, going for this green is generally unwise. Hole 6 is the first par 5. Reachable for the longest hitters if you can thread the teeshot between the fairway bunkers. The approach will be severely downhill and guarded short by water, and long by a catch all bunker. This hole is not quite the birdie op you are hoping for when you see a par 5. The second par 3 is another well protected postage stamp green. If you find the surface a flat putt all but guarantees your birdie At the eighth avoiding the pit is paramount. There is plenty of run up into this green to play it short off the tee, driver at your own detriment! The 9th is a hole you can have your way. Many tee shot options short, long, close to the on ravine and away from it.. wind direction and pin placement should be the main drivers of your tee shot. 10 has been lengthened slightly to make the optimal angle slightly more risky. Staying left still gives you a good opportunity, though it does bring the right runoff of the green more into play Hole 12 is a par 3 that will require you to use the slopes to have a good chance at birdie. Pars will be quite common here. Be very wary of the fairway bunker on 11 as the fairway cambers to the right. Usually the wind is off the left too so watch for some serious action on your ball as it hits the green Hole 13 is another short hole where birdie is not guaranteed. Potentially driveable, but if your short game is not in point this green is lethal territory. Hole 14 is the second par 5 named sabretooth after the fang shaped depression the juts into the landing area. If you don't intend to go for the green staying short of the fang is recommended; the fairway is too narrow to have to layup from that awful place. A conservative tee shot is best on 15, but the fairway will guide your ball around the bend if you think you want to go for it.. The final par 3 is but a flick to a downhill green. A late birdie opportunity.. The 17th is the final par 5 and possibly the easiest hole on the course. A daunting hole that plays as a double dogleg for shorter hitters; going for the green in 2 requires an insane tee shot followed by an even more insane approach. The 18th is a simple hole that tests your ability to stick to the basics under pressure. Trouble is around for the choke though!

These settings are tailor made to coincide with the pin placements such that each round adequately tests a different skillset. The winner will be the best all around golfer, or the golfer who manages his weaknesses the best. Round 1 "opening day" Storms will roll in later but right now it is b e a utiful. Prime scoring conditions as long as the tempo is good. Key stat : ballstriking(gir) Round 2 "sopping wet mess" no golf was played Friday as the storms from the night before carried on through the morning, leaving the course drenched. The course is soft and the greens are rolling as true as pinnochio. Players can take advantage of the softer conditions, although the low winds are not so favorable for the par 5s Key stat : proximity to hole, med putt % Round 3 "Staying day" A tropical depression situated to the southeast has the winds whipping in an insanely unfavorable direction. It is all golfers can do to hold the green, or even reach them in some cases. Key stat : scrambling, long putt % Round 4 "Manic Monday" Assuming one of the patrons chairs didn't kick up in the wind and kill you yesterday, you are in for a treat today as the winds are in the optimal direction. As a response the staff have moved the pins to some pretty inconvenient locations.. Key stat - FIR, all putting

Well that is possibly the most detailed write up for any course I’ve seen, anyone willing to put that effort in, has my 20 minutes it takes to play a round. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Hope to see you in the stream tomorrow at 8:30 pm eastern. I appreciate that you will be playing it for sure. When I posted this I didn't think the publish window would change and I already had the stream planned. Sorry if there's any confusion about me not being published just yet

Bruh. This round took me more than 2 mins longer than my usual time because I just had to stop and appreciate the eye candy, there are so many wow factor moments on this course - yet nothing crossing over into 'crazy' territory like your first couple of courses. The par 3s in particular are all spectacular. You can tell from my updated sig what I thought of it Here's the vid of my playthrough:

Thanks to ohheycat for letting me be the first to try his new course. Although it was difficult (I shot a +14), virtually all of those lost strokes were due to mistakes on my part. A tough, but fair course. Will play again and finish under par.

Great job on this course, really enjoyed my round. Finished with a +3 and could've been better if it wasn't for stupid decisions off the tee on the last 3 holes

Played this the other night, very well done, found it to be a good fair challenge. I thought a couple of the flower plantings around the greens or tees could’ve used some mulch or something, just would’ve sharpened them up and made them feel like they should be there. Really other than that everything looked great, really liked the plantings in the revines, and the sculpting and overall layout of the course was great. Nice work.

Great job on this course, really enjoyed my round. Finished with a +3 and could've been better if it wasn't for stupid decisions off the tee on the last 3 holes Pretty good round there. The closing stretch really is designed to force an error, beginning with 16 which is generally an easy birdie to boost your confidence before heading to 17, where 2 hero shots are required. 18 looks simple, but there's a good reason not to hit any club you might want off the tee. The uncertainty created by that is a fine recipe for a very slow dip into the water, and I even sloped the fairway down towards the water to help seal your fate. Hope you go back and get your revenge

I definitely know what you mean, but I was going for the wild unkempt 'it's a jungle out there' look. At the same time I think I might have crutched myself on that, or used it as an excuse to maybe say 'good enough' when maybe it could have been better. I will definitely be going with a whole different style next time. Thanks for checking it out
