The secluded Shelter Island Club is set on the eastern end of Long Island and is routed through sand dunes, with a few holes playing along the water. The course plays a shade over 7,200 yards (par 71) from the tips. Aside from the setting, one notable design feature is the large, heavily contoured greens. The course was designed with high winds in mind, so if you play in benign conditions, you should expect to score well. Nevertheless, if you miss in the wrong places, you may receive a fairly severe punishment (though in all my rounds here, I have yet to lose a golf ball). After playing from the red (back) tees, I might suggest trying a little match play from the white tees (~6700 yards), as this set features several interesting drivable par fours. The greens are set to a default speed of 157 to accommodate the slopes. They appear to remain playable on the "fast" setting, though they will certainly challenge you. EDIT: A re-routed, cross-country adventure golf version of the course has been published called "Gimme Shelter." Coming soon to a Dirty Ankle Mafia society near you.

Outstanding work here Dan
loved everything about it, I think the wind blowm dunes aspect is some of the best I have seen in the game...
The routing I loved and the course can play easy in spots and tough as heck in others all dependent on placement of your shots (as it should be )
Strong work my friend, very strong work
Give it a go folks, great design
Terry

I won't say this is the BEST course in the contest (hey I'm in it man!!) but so far this is the course I will likely play most often. What a fun immersive track you've built! Really really enjoyed this one.

Live with my playthrough, Hitting it like garbage though Thanks for streaming your playthrough. I watched you play pin 3. I kind of wish your drive on 11 reacted differently after it hit the ground, but sloping the green in that direction is all part of the trickery.

Funny how it's been so good good all week but on the eve of the next pga event I'm as wonky as I've ever been. Pin 3 requires some pinpoint shots and I just didn't have it today

Let me borrow a John quote here: "Pardon the salty language but ho-lee crap!"
Dan, no knock on your previous stuff but, this is your best work to date. Noticed some similarities to Monterey Bay in the planting and bunkering. It's got great visuals AND great playability. My game was off a bit and struggled to a 69 in my first go, but a hallmark of a great course being so enamored that you don't give a damn what you shoot. I had that feeling here.
I have a short list of courses I don't want to see until late in the going. This is on that list. Well done, sir!

Honestly, it's having competitors such as yourself who I know are going to put out something special that pushed me to go the extra mile.

As kids we altered summer vacations between Ammagansett LI, and Outer Banks, NC- you captured the environment perfectly. Very nicely done!

Super solid course. Loved the lighthouse dune island. Just enough eye candy to keep players satisfied without having to go over the top. Course plays terrific while keeping it natural.

Absolute gem. Felt the strong long island sandy vibes throughout. Super immersive, fun, varied, and realistic. Fantastic detail work, including the clubhouse, entrance gate, objects, etc. Love the bunker work. These greens are simply incredible...sizeable with contours that blend perfectly. Loved the open feel and the fact that every hole was a great vista no matter the backdrop. I could keep gushing about this course for hours. Will be back many times and suggest that this is going to be a real contender in the contest. Great work and thanks for bringing us a course like this.

I finally got round to playing a round on Shelter Island and really enjoyed my round here. I've just started my foray into master clubs and got round the course with an -8 score. Very playable and challenging course and looked great.
