A quite generic question... possibly belongs elsewhere but the main reason is my ridiculous ambition to create a links course worthy of this years Open Championship. Observation of the schedule suggests around a month but for majors in particular I imagine that isn't a hard and fast rule.
I released my first course about a week ago but I see I have a long way to go... I intend to put a huge amount of effort in and probably several courses down the line before I expect to have honed my skills enough but if you can't have an ambitious target... :-)
In parallel with that I need to work my butt of to try and qualify for it!

Additionally would be interested to know if TGC Tours are looking for St Andrews replica for this years event? The submission guidelines don't suggest as such. I'm planning a fictional course using elements from classic British links courses including some I've played IRL. I'll still make it regardless

I don't know any of such details but a St andrews style course sounds very cool good luck with it

Thanks, I appreciate it I don't want to just cover St Andrews but will take some elements from that. Princes Golf Club and St George's next to it I know well and will try to take elements from them also. I loved Royal St David's in Wales too when I played that. There is the odd hole from that course that left a big impression on me. In fact now to think of it I'm just missing some Irish representation on that list, I have a lot of respect for Portrush, although I've never been... I'll have to do a bit of research and learn some lessons from that course

Awesome suggestion, pretty epic dunes at the back of that hole. Any more suggestions most welcome Thanks also Tim, tbh that is great news, I trust we'll get an awesome course for the British Open. I'm pretty new to the game having only acquired the necessary equipment recently (ps4... My pc isn't up to much), but I'm so impressed with site. I've just played my first event and now have an exemption for the European Tour... can't wait to give that a go! You guys are doing a brilliant job... Hopefully I'll managed to produce a course you guys will use for an event at some point Cheers

I remembered asking this question some time back so thought I'd have a dig about for it... little did we know the unfortunate twist of fate that lead to me indeed hosting The Open. In a rather amusing twist the main reason I didn't get around to making a British links course as described above is the US Open Contest which yielded the course which went on to host anyways. Funny how things happen sometimes
