Not even a second thought. Finish

the real lesson is to put the game down the minute you start going really horribly. You can always resume when you're in a better state of mind.

Doing the right thing and playing my rounds to completion even though I was tempted not to cost me thanks to the quitters/dnf's I wasn't playing for a demotion but if I had of taken the 2 strikes for a DNF I would have been able to play in the promotion event. As it is, I got one strike, leaving me with 4 and unable to play. Before the DNF's were removed I would have got two strikes, demoted to CC-C, cleared of all demotion marks and been able to play in the promotion event. Not that I was playing for that, (look at my last 3 tournaments I've been bottom feeding) but would have taken it. Sucks to not be able to play because of the DNF's of others. I so wanted to just quit at this 11 (fast/perfects/water/twice) but I manned up and took my lumps.

Always finish unless it is something outside of your control. In relation to online golf this would be either a power cut or losing the internet connection.

If you’re really asking if it’s ok to quit...be very happy you don’t have to talk to my Dad an out this. 😉
Knock it off and finish what you started. You’ll always be able to live with the results but quitting takes something from you that’s difficult to get back.

@itsmb, just out of curiosity, the 2019 tour card in your signature, are you making that yourself, or is it available somewhere for others? I created a forum post for the signature badges.. look under Clubhouse.. BTW, I would finish the tourney despite the score.. EDIT: Here's the link to the sign badges.. tgctours.proboards.com/thread/16825/get-forum-tour-badge

I've recreated a similar one in Excel like itsmb8's...manual process, tho, too bad EmeraldPi stopped doing the automagic one!!
...only downside is advertising my crappy play on tour!!

I've just run into this conundrum in the promotion event. It's a little different dynamic in the promotion event because there's literally no penalty for not finishing.
I'm currently on Euro tour. After 2 rounds I'm in a position where I need a great round 3 to get myself back in a position to even have a chance to finish high enough to reach the PGA tour. I will play that 3rd round and will keep an eye on the leaderboard, but there's a very good chance that after round 3, I'll be effectively eliminated from having a chance at promotion. By Saturday it'll be relatively easy to crunch the numbers and know what's required, at least within a couple shots, so the element of "you never know" is kind of gone by that point.
If I need a -22 to even have a chance to make the PGA tour do I even bother playing the 4th round? I'm essentially just playing spoiler at that point. There are people from all tours in the promotion event with all club types. My meaningless [to me] 4th round could presumably knock other players down further in the standings. It's probably my duty to play my rounds and do exactly that, since the goal of the event is to make placement correction to get everyone closer to the tour on which they "belong". My arbitrary withdraw or partial score only through 3 (I'm not sure what counts) isn't really a good reason for someone to land on a higher tour than they would have landed on had I finished, and although it might not seem like it, it's not really doing them any favors.
I'll probably play it regardless because I will err on the side of doing what I think the right thing to do is, but I generally don't care to play rounds where I've missed cuts, and this kind of feels like the same type of situation even though there is no cut.

Your rounds will have zero effect on anyone looking to promote TO Euro:
You are solely competing to promote to PGA - if you don't finish in the top xx spots to do that - then your score is effectively disregarded for the rest of the promo spots (as you are already in Euro and therefore can't promote at all!)
So just play for your own sake and your possible promotion - you aren't hurting anyone else's chances of promoting by completing your rounds (nor to be fair are you hurting them by you NOT completing either!)

Makes sense hadn't understood that dynamic. Thanks!

I am not good at all since putting away the beginner clubs and trying out the Pro Clubs. Finish rounds anywhere from +2 to +9 in the cc-z. I look at it as a competition with myself because what I find pretty cool about this game and league is that you play 4 rounds and all can be very different even though you are basically playing the same course with slight changes in wind and pin placement. The goal is to improve and I can see there is no quick fix other than going back to beginner clubs which are now banned from the "real" tours. Besides I would feel better improving on my own even if it means staying the rest of my time in the cc-z as I have a long way to go to even compete for wins in the lowest brackets.....

Your enjoyment is the number one thing. If you enjoy playing, keep doing so. I'm far from the best player. Heck, I played in The Casuals society event on my own course last week and I finished 21 shots behind the winner. That's on a course I designed and over just two rounds.

Thought that I would revive this subject because of how well it fits how I feel today. Today in a society that I just joined today, I shot my lowest round ever. -18 with a par on the first hole (barely missing a birdie) followed by all birdies and an eagle on the front and the very same thing on the back. Everything felt great and nothing could be better. So hey, let's take this bad boy right on over to tgctours and punch it's lights out!! Slow, slow, fast, very slow, you get my drift, all throughout the round. Round 1, -1 with a birdie on the 18th to seal the deal. Shell shock set in, with mumblings of how and why over and over. Round 2, so much better, -5. 6 under in first 2 rounds after just shooting 18 under in one. I always play all 4 rounds back to back, until today lol. I don't want to finish because it's so useless, but of course I will. But I can't believe how much this game can go from being one thing and becoming another in just a few minutes time. Happy days!
