EDIT: THIS QUESTION HAS BEEN ANSWERED SO YOU DON'T NEED TO KEEP POSTING. TAKE A MOMENT AND READ MY POSTS AND YOU'LL SEE THAT I DON'T FAVOR QUITTING.
IT WAS MAINLY JUST A QUESTION OUT OF CURIOSITY DUE TO SEEING OTHER DNF'S OUT THERE, JUST TO MAKE SURE THERE WASN'T SOME HIDDEN ADVANTAGE.
Hey guys, I'd like an opinion- I know everyone has one, but I'd love to see an admin/official opinion on this, and how they view it.
I just had one of those truly awful, awful, nonrecoverable rounds, as R3 on this weeks course. Midway through, I knew I was doing so bad, like every. single. shot. going wrong, or missing by an inch bad. It was to the point that you just throw up your hands and subconsciously say forget it, and just start whacking the ball mindlessly just to finish the round.
I was on 16 or 17, +10 by then, and suddenly I thought... is it better at this point to just stop here, and not have this go against me? or is it better to finish the round and the tourney, even with an awful score?
The more I thought on that, I decided to stop, and post it here, just to see what others thought, and what how the tournament officials view that.
(were it real life, I know, you'd probably be looked down on greatly for walking off the course and stopping, and my own nature is to never quit, but this is online golf, a bit different, so I thought I'd ask)

You are going to get double demotion marks if you have a DNF. What would be the reason not to finish? Your poor score in one round will not hurt you outside of the overall tourney score.
I think the consensus would be if you start a tourney, it would be in poor taste to quit midway through because you’re playing poorly. If anything just speed golf the rest and move on to next week.

My opinion and certainly not official......keep playing, something good may happen.

Finish it. You don’t have to complete the round right away. Take a break, maybe your swing comes back. But go back and finish the round, then finish the tourny.

As Jason said, finish up so you dont get a double demotion strike that could hurt you down the road. There are also players who are 50 and 70 over through 3 rounds who have kept playing.
Just me, but if I'm playing awful and going to miss the cut I still try to birdie the 36th hole.

@itsmb, just out of curiosity, the 2019 tour card in your signature, are you making that yourself, or is it available somewhere for others?

I'll get started building mine in Excel.

Thank you all for replying!
I had no idea that you got double demotion marks for a DNF.
The way I usually think, if I start, I'm going to finish it, and play it out my hardest. I'm the guy that in fantasy football, has the most dangerous team on the last week, because I never play to tank, I'll still be trying to win on that last game even though it may cost me a draft slot.
I've seen some DNFs, so I had to ask, just to satisfy my curiosity, to make sure there wasn't some big advantage in it. I'm glad to see there is not. Hope no one thinks less of me for just asking.
I'll resume my round tomorrow and happily finish the tournament.
