I just wanted to drop a note in for everyone: judging for the first Knockout Round is still ongoing. I had hoped we could start revealing results as early as today (Wednesday), but with the holiday, it's taking a bit extra.

I have finally finished streaming and recording all design entries. You guys should all be extremely proud of yourselves. Most courses were very, very good and ranked up there with some of the better ones in the game. Hopefully from all the feedback from the judges, it has helped you all become better designers and really enjoy what the design suite can do in this game. Very well done and thanks for the video feedback as well, I received zero death threats from any competitors after watching their videos. You can find them all on my Youtube channel.
Just a great contest overall in terms of how it was run, how it is being judged and how competitors are accepting feedback. Well done! I have my Top 5, it will be interesting to see how close I am to the judges decisions!

Winner: Blunderbuss (CiB0RG)Congratulations to CiB0RG for reaching the Semi-Finals, where Blunderbuss will meet the winner of the quarterfinal-round match between The Dunes at Lake Marie and Maeze Park North. Big congrats to CiB0RG . I knew when this debuted on stream the night you released it that it was going to be tough to beat. I had to rearrange my top 3 in the contest at that point to include it. I had a goal of top 4 when I entered, so I'm disappointed, but only in myself, and as more courses were submitted I knew that was going to be harder and harder to achieve. Looking back at it, there's a lot of things I wish I'd done differently, and even some holes I would've taken out and redone completely if I were building it now, but without the critiques and feedback, probably wouldn't have noticed a lot of what I could've done better. I see now that I definitely should've waited that extra month to publish and taken more time to polish it up. Huge thanks to the judges. I learned a lot from participating in this contest and I know it took a lot of time and effort on your parts to judge and score all of these courses, playing multiple rounds and filming critiques and playthroughs, etc. I'm actually surprised that the 1 vs 8 matchup scoring was this close, and I think that only bodes well for the future matchups. Good luck to everybody left, and I won't be shamelessly promoting Maka Sichu in streamers' chats at random anymore Strictly Sweetens Cove promotion now!

Congrats Justin! Both of these courses were personal favorites of mine to play. gamesdecent should be very proud of this effort, and with a few things he's picked up along the way, there's nothing but upside here (as evidenced by Sweetens Cove). This is exactly the kind of matchup to expect the whole way through Invicta as far as strong contenders going head-to-head. The future of this design community is strong!

Just echoing what has already been said but gamesdecent should absolutely be proud of Maka Sichu. I enjoy that course a lot. You could have obviously tinkered with it forever but I'm sure the feedback has been very valuable. Plus it's guaranteed a tour stop, which is very cool. Good luck in Invicta as the competition is fierce. Congrats to CiB0RG, even though you "threw" this together with limited time. Scary to think of what you could create if you actually took your time. ;-) Now, would someone put Ute Forrest out of it's misery already...

Figured I would chime in here... I was no more than 1 or 2 holes into making Blunderbuss when I first played the nearly finished beta of Maka Sichu. My only reaction was "holy S*** this is part of the rookie competition?!?" There I was playing this beautiful veteran-looking course with all sorts of creative and interesting features. I have to admit it was pretty demoralizing seeing a course of that detail almost completed when all I had done at the time was a few surfaces laid down. Maka Sichu has so many cool elements to it that I will happily admit I could NOT do myself. I gotta give props to gamesdecent for publishing that good of a course so early and setting the bar high for the rest of the entrants. I'm sure I'm not the only one that saw that course drop and have an instant "come to Jesus" moment. It was a bit of a kick in the butt for me to spend extra time on a few things that I had never attempted before. Being in this competition under that pressure made me a better designer and I think the same goes for a lot of the entrants in this competition. My hat is off to Brian for his work, especially that which he did on Sweetens Cove... absolutely incredible and he is getting GOOD. Thank God I'm not in his Invicta group. BTW Thanks for the shout outs guys! I'm thrilled to have made the semifinals!

I'll chime in here. This wasn't my matchup to judge, but I was extremely impressed with the work both of these guys put in. gamesdecent, when I first opened Maku Sichu, I thought for sure it was one of Andre's courses, given the way it was planted and how it was lighted. And the fact you chose Desert was a bold move. That's a tough theme to work in and make it look good and I thought you pulled off the look exceptionally well. I see big things for you, between the work you did here and what you learned from Job doing Sweetens Cove. CiB0RG, this is definitely a step up for you from Tradewell. You said this seeing Maku Sichu drop made you pay attention to stuff you hadn't before, which clearly shows in Blunderbuss, which is one of the cleanest courses in the entire competition, and a nice, relaxing course to play as well. Best of luck in the semis, Justin. And, Brian, just let me know if you want my notes from your course.

And, Brian, just let me know if you want my notes from your course. Definitely do, and yeah I knew not going rustic or boreal or something like that was a potentially polarizing decision, but I also felt it would set it apart, so I'm glad to see that choice was noticed.

Wow! I knew it was going to be close one way or the other and I was fully prepared to get the boot. Maeze was a sneaky good course in this thing to me. Super clean and fun to play. Looking forward to playing it on tour.
Now, let’s go shock the world!

Winner: The Dunes at Lake Marie (ryanjmcconnell)Congratulations to ryanjmcconnell for reaching the Semi-Finals, where The Dunes at Lake Marie will meet top-seeded Blunderbuss. Congrats! Knew I was one and done once I saw my matchup. Solid course, well deserved win. Honestly wasn't even sure I'd make the cut against this amazing batch of "rookie" courses once I had played them all and I wouldn't even have ranked mine that high. Ultimately I knew my course was missing too much wow factor to win any contests. I'm still happy with how it came out. A big thanks to the organizers and the reviewers/note takers. This was a lot of fun, I will hopefully take the notes and maybe try one of these more diehard competitions down the road. Cheers and GL to the remaining contenders.

I received zero death threats from any competitors after watching their videos. Only because Canada is a big place and I don't know where you live. Sure, but there's only people on about 5% of the land so that should narrow down the search considerably. Especially since he doesn't live in Southern Ontario, so that leaves about three places to look.
