...of an never expected stroke of fate within my family. As our 4-year-old son didn't feel well over the whole weekend, we took him to the hospital. Just to make sure it wasn't something really serious. Oh well, we were disabused... the final diagnosis was absolutely shocking: He has a malignancy at his suprarenal gland that is already touching his lungs. I can honestly tell you, this hits you like 2 freight trains at once, especially as there were absolutely no symptoms for this to ever happen. The one & only good news is that it finally sorted out that he has a form of tumor that has pretty good chances to be fully cured (it could have been even worse, although this sounds pretty ridiculous with a diagnosis like that). He is in good hands in the hospital were we are right now, and he is a strong little boy that will hopefully fight like a super-hero in the upcoming weeks and months, and my family and I we will support him as good as we can, so that we can go back to the life we had before this shocking event. But we will be in hospital for at least the next 8 weeks (it is planned to start chemotherapy already tomorrow, and in 6 weeks there is going to be a surgery if the tumor has gone back enough), so I will not find nearly as much time for anything else (including TGC) like I was used to. So as a long-time & active member of this community, I just wanted you let you know if I will not show up constantly, will miss events on the tour without telling, or whatever. I'm definitely going to play from time to time, just to find some distraction from all the rest... but just not often I guess. If you use to pray from time to time, do me a favor and include my little son if you want. I'm sure it would help, as we can require all the support we can get right now.

He's allowed to come home today. While it will only be for a few days (until Wednesday it seems), this is still amazing. We can't wait to show him our (almost finished) new house. There's also some not so good news about the upcoming time and the therapy he'll go through in the future (which I will explain tomorrow or so when I have a bit more time). But for now, there's only a thrill of anticipation to finally bring him home after exactly 2 month of hospital without intermission. #KeepOnFighting #FinallyComingHome

No doubt it’s a process but sounds like everyone is strong and that is the best you can do. Stay positive and stay strong my friend! Thanks for the updates. Our thoughts are with you!

I'm new here, but this story made me tear up. I'm so very happy to read he is coming home - my prayers are with your son and your family during this time.

I'm so happy for all of you that your son has been able to come home again! I hope you had some time to build a little putting green in the back yard for him! We're all pulling for you and your family, Thomas.

He's doing fine, thanks for asking.
Although there's still a lot to do we really enjoyed the last couple of days with him in our new home. He is/was feeling good, and was kind of "absorbing" his regained freedom and the new area around him.
Yesterday we had to go back to hospital for another (long session) chemo, but in the evening we were allowed to go home again.
The not so good news I was talking about lately are that there's another 27 weeks of therapy he will have to go through. Most of the time it will just be ambulatory treatment (where we can go home after the treatment), but there'll be a few times again where we have to stay in hospital for 4-5 days. And there will also be another surgery (most likely at the beginning of October) where they try to remove the (few & little) mets in his lungs.
Of course we were pretty shocked when we first heard about all this. But if the docs think/say that this is what has to be done... so be it.

Hey guys, first of all I'd like to apologize for not posting any updates at all over the past few months. But I really didn't have the time and/or motivation lately. But here I am again finally... and there's quiet a bit to report: My little fighter is basically at home all the time (unless he's getting sick or so, which has luckily only happened once in September since he left the hospital at the end of August). Every Wednesday we are going to the hospital where he gets his weekly chemotherapy, and they actually plan to continue with that until February. I am on parental leave since Oct 1st so I can stay at home with my son (as he's not allowed to go to Kindergarten or so actually because of his weak immune system). A bit back I was talking about not so good news. He had a CT on his lungs a few weeks back to check what happened to his metastases. And before that, the doctors were pretty sure he'd need some radiotherapy and probably a surgery too. But after a few anxious days waiting for the final results, the doctors told us that all mets have gone and he won't need any treatment(s) on his lungs. And you wanna know the best news? They also told us he's actually cancer-free!!! Although we still don't want to be too enthusiastic really, this were some absolutely stunning news for the whole family! I remember that moment as it was yesterday... my wife and I we were crying, praying and holding hands all night long. We simply couldn't find any words for our feelings! Actually he's getting 8 local radiotherapy treatments were the tumor was. While the chemotherapy really did a good job before his surgery, they still found a small viral cell in the tumor. So they have to do this to minimize the risk of any bad tissue coming back. But thus far, he luckily reacted good on those treatments. And there's only two more left (tomorrow and on Friday). So, that's the situation right now! We do hope & pray that his full recovery is just a matter of time! Right now, it's really looking good... #KeepOnFighting
