Did part one of the first episode today. The mic was echoing...but I think I have that issue solved for the next one. I took Kessler's japan course and looked specifically at hole 14. Primary things addressed: Sculpting Bunkering Planting Textures Angles It was a pretty benign little start to this endeavor. That will change on the next part of this first episode as I'll get a little more feisty with hole design and sculpting. Videos can be found: Reebdoog's You Tube Channel Before and After shots from our little bit of work this afternoon: BEFORE AFTER BEFORE AFTER BEFORE AFTER

So today we looked at hole number 1. This hole encapsulates the issues on this course. It's flat..the bunkers have no real feel of depth, the creek is detracting from the hole rather than adding, the green and fairway are too close to water level, the green shape did not add any kind of excitement...the hole was fine...but forgettable. We resculpted a bit, modified the creek both in width and depth as well as a slight rerouting, we changed the approach, the green and the planting a bit as well. The result is a hole that plays about the same...but it sticks in your mind more and is a more enjoyable hole to play and to look at. Drastic? Not hugely...but this episode was more about tweaking that full out rerouting. Trust me...we'll get there in the upcoming episodes. Hopefully you all found it fun to watch and see what the thought process was. You may want to skip around a bit as I took my time...but I think it's worthwhile if only to see how things were done. I finished this one up today. I undid the changes from the first two streams and focused on sculpting without making changes to the rest. We did a LITTLE planting just to help out a bit and show how the sculpting can drive the planting or vice-versa. No pictures this time. Just check out the stream using the link in the first post. We resculpted the first 6 holes and the difference from an hour of work with a bulldozer was pretty dramatic I think. Didn't even have to do BIG moves all over. Kessler...I think you'll like it. Give it a watch and see if you can pull it off in your course file.

so kessler...what's the verdict on just sculpting to change things up?

Well.... I’m actually away from the game right now on vacation, so tbh I haven’t gotten a chance to look at the file you sent back. Based on what I see in the pictures, though, if I can become good at the same thing you did with the file, I’ll be very happy

I'm really enjoying these videos Reeb, learning a lot too! Plus I had no idea you had such a unique sense of humor! LOL
The one thing I would really enjoy if possible is if you could let us know when you're using the sculpt raise versus the sculpt flatten tool. You are so good at moving through the tools menus, that sometimes I can't tell which one you're applying. It really helps to see how a good designer works with the tools.

Interesting to watch. I just wish there was more streaming within the whole design community.

Interesting to watch. I just wish there was more streaming within the whole design community. There used to be several that streamed, but most have gone by the wayside. Nezzie has done a lot to fill the void, and it's great to see Reeb streaming now. I usually stream more, but I just haven't had the time lately. I plan on getting back on track in the near future.

Episode 2 began today. Working on the crescent serpent. Had some stream problems but we covered:
Smoothing our edges, skinny fairways a bit, making low tees still pop visually, making smooth slopes...

I've gotten better on my fairway edges on the last 2 projects. Thanks for the smoothing tip...I've used that a lot more lately and it works pretty well.
I'm starting to use splines a lot more, but then I struggle w/ rough uniformity around them. The nudging of the waypoints works okay for kinks, but never tried over creating waypoints and then deleting. Will play with that. Each creates its own tedium.
thanks for episode1!

And yes, the last 12 minutes was what I was looking for in terms of smoothing on a more macro scale for soft gradient slopes. So thanks. I did this method in general, but I think it's just the amount of time to get it right, and watching from many angles to make sure I'm getting the desired effect.
