After a week or so off from designer, thinking about what the next project would be, I remembered coming across this course in reading some articles about course architecture and thinking about how well it would translate into the game. So...going to give this a go, with a US Open type style of setup in mind, which is fitting of the design and history of the course. Literally at stage 1 right now, trying out the grid-method of setting everything out on the plot that I've seen a few others do with RCR's. Will try to post some updates in here as things develop, but I've found that itch to get going on this that I didn't have a few days ago - which is a nice feeling

We had this on tgc1, and it was very good. The designer hasn't returned to the game since though, so I'm looking forward to seeing this in tgc2.

Funny you mention that, because I literally just had the thought "Wait...I wonder if someone has already done this?" then looked it up to see it hadn't been ported into TGC2. I'm not sure if this will end up being a full fledged RCR unless I can get my hands on green maps or whatever the previous designer used to sculpt greens and place pins, but that's a few steps down the line this early on.

Yeah, I'd expect this course to be difficult to obtain all the necessary data. Even a fictional version of this would be great. It's all about the templates.

Basically approaching this like I did with Albany - though now having the experience of putting that one together, hopefully it's a bit quicker/easier - and will try to find some green slope info when I get to that point, but if I can't I'll just make them custom based off of pictures and descriptions I can find (I know they're out there). But like I said, that's a ways down the line at this point...hopefully I can find that irl green info though, think it would be pretty fun to try to recreate what the greens actually do.

Would LOVE to see a rendition of Chicago Golf. It is hosting the first ever U.S. Women's Senior Open this July. Not sure if it'll be televised (maybe on FS1 since Fox has the USGA deal?). As far as a "US Open style" set up goes, I might suggest keeping the fairways reasonably wide (as can be seen in the aerial) because Raynor courses are all about playing the angles--if the landing areas are all 20 yards then you don't really have to think off the tee.

Thanks for the tip, wasn't aware of it being scheduled to host a USGA event - that'll be fun to watch, for me at least . As far as fairway widths go, I plan to adhere 100% to whatever the real life measures tell me, unless something seems just ridiculously incompatible with tgc2 gameplay...but I hear what you're saying and will certainly try my best to keep it reasonable if any of those types of things arise. BTW if anyone reads this and has access to information on the course, please feel free to shoot me a message, would love to get as much info/maps/etc. as possible!

The Fried Egg article about templates has many references to Chicago golf club.

The Fried Egg article about templates has many references to Chicago golf club. That's the first place I came across the course beyond the general knowledge of it being a long-standing championship-level design

I hope you get the scale and scope of the green complexes. Plenty of movement. The rendition in TGC1 was fantastic. Remember in particular one hole with a green sloping severely left to right and with a sideboard that could be used to feed the ball down to the back right pin.

I’m not typically a fan of classic designs like this, but I really like Chicago. Looking forward to it!

If nothing else, sounds like I’ll need to reinstall tgc1 and play the course to get a feel for it since it sounds like the course was a solid design.

Was looking at that yesterday, pretty cool little overview. You can kind of see some shading on the graphics to represent sloping, so hopefully I can use that plus descriptions from places like Fried Egg to solidify how they play.
