Alright the greens are starting to get on my nerves... on hole 14 in round 3 I missed a putt by about 3 feet. That putt kept going for 50 more feet and rolled off the green. I consider myself lucky to have made bogey... gah! Other than the greens though I’m really loving this course. -21 thru 3 rounds on CC-D Thank you. At least somebody else said it. Absolutely infuriating greens. At this level, inexcusable. And I don't want to hear anymore crap about how it's hard to find courses for CC-E. That's no excuse. Hell, why don't you guys just have us play The Beast. I mean at this point, what's the difference? Stupid, stupid course for this level. It's one challenging green. The rest of the course plays incredibly easy - especially the front nine. CC-Am has played much more difficult courses this season. At this point, early Wednesday, the (usual 10%) exemption line projects to be: CC-D: -30 CC-E: -22 CC-Z: -16 That's right around the typical exemption line for the lowest-scoring events on CC-Am all year.

Looking at my scorecards... I’m bogey free on the first 12 holes, with 4 in the last 6... wow. If I could’ve cleaned that part up, I’d be much closer to the lead.

I’m -11 after 3 rounds. Nerves were getting to me. Left a few birdies behind for sure! Hoping I can have a solid final round and secure an expection next week.

Honestly it’s that one pin out of all 54 I’ve seen so far that’s a problem. Yeah the greens are a little tough, but I’d say 53 out of 54 pin placements are completely fair.

R2 (E) -5 after two. I had two lies that defied gravity but managed to get back on the fairway. My putting was good but that's about all. This course has a nice layout but don't make any mistakes, they cost!

Finished off with a bitty - 2 for an 11 under final score. Disappointed after that first round, thought I was onto something there. Ah well, -11 should hopefully keep me out of trouble...

So It was the 14th that ruined my chances of a win. -18 after 2 rounds and doing well. I left my approach to the hole short caught the slope in front of the pin and off I went. Then I repeated the process 3-4 times before ending up with a round ender.
Finished -1 in the 3rd. Thankfully I shot a -11 in the last so I'm flirting with exemption at -30
Lovely course.

Then I repeated the process 3-4 times before ending up with a round ender. The only way to putt up that hill is to play it at 100% strength (without moving the putting marker). Anything less and it's back under your feet. Trust me, I did the research. Funnily enough, I didn't have to use it in competition, felt kinda like I wasted my time!

In response to He Who Shall Not Be Named
I was a life long CC-Am guy, and am about to get an exemption to B.
The secret? I practiced my ass off, adjusted my game to account for the in-game quirks, and got better.
Many more here are doing the same thing.
Get over your rage, find your happy place, and play better. If it’s ruining your life, quit playing.

Well R3 (69) coulda woulda shoulda the back nine on this course is EVIL!! -8 after three R4 tomorrow. BTW on the 15th I was 24yds from pin 3' drop so I tried a flop. The LW is set for 25yds and I set the loft to the top thinking a short flop and roll but it went 50+ yds. I'm thinking by setting it like that I'm doing a flop with a 3 iron theoretically any thoughts?

If your downswing is fast at all it overshoots massively. Lofting will even further hinder that tempo multiplier I guess. Much easier with the Player clubs rather than the Tour set IMO.

On the subject of the greens on this course, and course choices in general for players of our level, I've been a harsh critic of the course choices in recent times, mainly because I've not been good enough to handle them if truth be told. I must be improving because I'm complaining much less these days.
Winterstone is a good course, it has a couple of tricky greens (14 and 15 spring to mind immediately) but once you know how to deal with them - once the fear factor is removed - those holes become far less daunting and much easier to score on, and crucially even easier to not make a round-ruining pig's ear of it.
Maybe it's easier - or more sobering - to use Player clubs because the temptation to hit a par 5 green in two is removed and you have to lay up and play for the easier birdie instead of risking a dodgy lie and a chip/flop that can leave you anywhere but where you want to be. i guess it's all down to the individual and his particular skill set.
Put it this way - if I were to use Tour clubs I'd be as annoyed by now as our shouty sweary friend gets. Maybe there's a lesson there.
