Kakadu Wetlands is my XB1-designed Delta-themed entry into VctryLnSprts Fantasy Theme Design Contest. Kakadu National Park is in Australia’s Northern Territory. The UNESCO World Heritage listed area encompasses wetlands, rivers and sandstone escarpments and it’s home to a huge variety of plant species and wildlife from saltwater crocodiles and kangaroos to birds ... and Crocodile Dundee! But, Kakadu has been missing a golf course ... until now. My contest development thread can be found here. It gives more of the design backstory and explains the following release trailer: Note, the images used are cropped XB1 screenshots so they are a bit low resolution. There are 3 pins (Red, Gold and Black) with the latter just over 7,000 yards. It's not overly long but water comes into play on every tee and fairway shot. There are also a fair number of tricky greens. I've tested it with all three club sets and all three pins and any combination can be an enjoyable challenge. I don't recommend playing Standard clubs off the Blacks for your first round! This is my first new course release in over 15 months and I think it is my best so far. I hope you give it a play. I'm happy to receive any praise or constructive criticism.

Water on every shot?! I Guess I’ll mentally prepare myself for those classic HB fast downswings. Haha! Video looks great, can’t wait to play it.

I'm trying to break in my new Tour clubs... this course probably wasn't the best place to start- but I loved the strategy in getting around. Very nice job!

Hey Ken
Just played my first round at Kakadu
Loved it....
I absolutely loved the flattish profile from the tee, it almost made the water feel a little more intimidating seeing it close to eye level
The routing was great I thought, very imaginative and creative.... Great planting and good night thats a lot of rocks....But WELL done all the way
I really liked the huts and such overlooking the 15th and 18th
on 18 I got brave and went for the green in two.. I hit my second one in the drink and had 221 remaining... I hit it and the daggum ball rolled toward the back of the green some 70 feet for par... How I snaked that in is beyond me but I saved par there ha ha
outstanding job!!! These judges have their hands full, you fellas have built some high quality courses
thanks for the offering
Terry

Nice job Ken - lots of options for different clubs and lines off tees etc - a thinking man's course. I played off the backs with players clubs, and it's definitely a course that I'd seriously think in future about using tours - would make a lot of the carries much less risky, and most of the fairways are pretty generous (Despite the ever present water)
Good stuff.

5 Stars Ken! Felt realistic to the environment to me, I dug out some pics I took there in 2005 and the vibe is present in your course: Your rock work was excellent too. Would be great if the designer had a palette that was more Aussie, with some real red earth and darker rocks, maybe TGC3! Have favorited this course and look forward to playing it again. Thank for doing downunder proud.

Thanks for the plays everyone. The Tour clubs can take advantage of the shortcuts better off the Blacks but only as long as you can hit it straight! Unless you have a favourable wind you are better off playing safe with the Player clubs off the Blacks. Player clubs will have a lot more risk / reward shots off Gold and Red tees.

Couldn't agree more with Robin's comments above. I've played it twice now with players clubs and definitely felt out of my depth - literally lol. Should've packed the scuba gear Seriously though this is a great course and I've developed a love/hate relationship with it already! I live in Australia and the name Kakadu always evokes certain images and sounds for me whenever I hear it mentioned. I think Ken's done a great job in capturing the Kakadu "feeling" and in that regard he's already a winner in my book. Well done mate. Barnbougle next?

Thank for doing downunder proud. Thanks Justin. It is a beautiful part of the World but a bit like my course it does take some time to get the most out of it. I spent 2 years in Darwin in the 90's and visited Kakadu often. Take a look at my "inspiration" notes in the development thread. Lots of cool pics in there.

A lot of my Kentash Bay was inspired by Barnbougle. I do have a couple of Gold Coast based fantasy courses in mind though!

I had to stop after 9 just to pipe in here, really refreshing change to the norm with this design. 'Have a little greenage with your water kinda' course'? (lol)! In all seriousness, this is a really fun course, the routing is great because at 1st play through you don't know which hunk of dirt your hitting from next & that's a good thing, again for a change! The mid day lighting works absolutely perfect for a change as well because of the amount of water. A lot of courses with tgc2 & mid day lighting to me just don't end up looking that good, a bit too bright unless you start using the haze & fog filters. Playing it, you have to mind your tee shots & your approach shots in order to set yourself up for scoring opportunities & that is what golf's all about! I don't know about the Australia feel to it since I've never been there but playing this course does transport me elsewhere. So that sensation was nailed! Kinda' had the inclination about every other hole or so to stop on a bridge between holes & drop a line in the water & catch some lunch...ah but I digress! Ha!
Very nice work here Ken, imho your best effort yet! Congrats man & here's to many many plays ahead as it should! Thanks for all your time & effort!
