Regarding the enforced swing. For me it's either, we all play on tour clubs or nothing (on the top tours). Competing against players using the easier set just wouldn't sit right with me. They are way easier to use. Following on from this by Brad, it got me thinking. Have any discussions been had/decisions been made on this, in terms of will everyone on PGA/Euro etc have to use Tour Clubs, or is it pick and choose as you want, if you prefer Player etc? If its the latter, not sure how it sits with me either, not a level playing field then is it? Whats others thoughts on this?

Don't agree with Brad here. Think everybody should have the choice to use whatever swing difficulty they want. Will allow for plenty of varience in the shots and another element of risk reward.
If everybody on the top tours were forced to use the tour difficulty we'd have ppl stop playing as it will prove too difficult for many.

My intuition tells me this will sort itself out organically

Also a very fair point. Easy to see both sides of this argument. Doyley , have any discussions about this been had at Presidential level?

I don't even get the point of us all using the same swing difficulty. Surely we all want a bit shot variance. Would be a killer to the Ghost squad too.
The whole idea of the swings is that they're well balanced and offer a certain degree of risk or safety.

Club choice is down to the player. Doesn't the easier swing equal less distance? Hence approach play may be tougher if longer out. Whereas the harder swing means more risk but if performed well, more distance, so you might have a shorter, easier approach? I'm merely guessing here guys as I'll not hit my first shot on TGC2 until Friday. So my opinion may change...

I say it depends on a few things. One thing is balance. If it's shown over time that tour setting can't compete with player, well then I disagree with Smurf. It would rule out tour club's for competitive use just as enforcing them only you cater to those who are not the best at the game. That's just odd. If the balance is fine I really don't care. Secondly... can tgct enforce such a thing? They can't do it in game, so can they through api? If not the discussion is really not needed. Wait and see. No need to debate this too much at this stage imo. Most of us haven't even got the game yet

I believe with Tour you have the ability to hit it further and spin it more but a greater chance for a mishit. As Smurf and others said, none of the three methods have their advantage. I think it's player's discretion in my opinion.

Does this not replicate the real tour as mcilroy and johnson bomb them down the fairways whereas the likes of furyk and luke donald are way behind with less power on their swings

Two things
1. We don't know if we can tell what clubs people are using until we get some API data flowing 2. You guys need to play the game for a few weeks and settle into your new swing - then I will start listening to your opinions on this matter - it's way to early to make snap judgements on this (coming from a guy that's played over 2 months of beta - you need some time to work out the kinks - especially you PGA/Euro guys that this will affect most)
Enjoy your slightly steep learning curve.

After a few weeks peoples opinions will be based around what benefits them. For eg If in a month I know I can hit the ball pretty straight consistently. I then learn the tempo, I should be good to go. At this stage it would be in my interest to have an enforced tour swing difficulty on pga/euro as I know I'll be able to deal with it better than most of the others. A decision is better off been taken now IMO before everyone realises what suits them best.

The whole idea of the swings is that they're well balanced and offer a certain degree of risk or safety. That's funny. Hadn't thought about it from that perspective. People that rely on ghost balls will be up that famous creek in a chicken-wire canoe. I've watched some people stream who automatically just take the leading score and watch every shot zoomed in before even attempting to hit. There was always the element of not knowing how much they lofted, but with the swing choices in this game, there are a ton more variables.

It's a risk/reward thing. Makes no more sense to limit it to one style (unless there's a serious design flaw in the game) than it would to have a rule saying you can only hit pitches out of bunkers or you are required to lay up on certain holes or you're not allowed to put draw or fade on the ball.

Having had some experience with the game. The fact is that if we were to use Player clubs on the PGA or European Tour, then we would just be playing TGC1 IMO, what's the point in that? They go the same distance and scoring is about the same.
I played in many tournaments during the beta, the top players that used Player clubs would basically lap the field. The other top players that were using Tour clubs, would be a mile behind because of the lack of absolute control and confidence that you get with the player clubs in comparison.
The exciting thing for me is, if we were to use Tour clubs only, this farcical TGC1 scoring would be taken down a peg or 2 and genuine risk/reward would come into the game. Don't get me wrong, you can still shoot lights out with Tour clubs, especially on the easier setups. But you need to be consistent with the swing. It's way more rewarding and fun, playing with the with the knowledge that a disaster is just around the corner if you're not concentrating properly, or make a bad swing or decision.
I guess that we'll play a few non official tournaments to iron out balancing, and see which direction that we're going to go?
Personally, I don't believe that I would play on TGC Tours if people are using clubs that have training wheels on, when I'm using Tour clubs.
Give it a few weeks and we'll see what everybody thinks, having had the time to get to know the game. Then we can all discuss where we should go regarding club choice. Now is too early to be sure.

I don't know for sure, but my experience so far (limited number of rounds) is the tour clubs produce more spin and hold the greens a lot more than on Player level. So there is that advantage to using them as well. But a mistake is a big penalty. I personally like the risk/reward aspect. I'm not even close to anything consistent yet. I planned to use Tour for sure, but definitely not there yet.
