Challenge to all the good course designers - create a decent Oakmont CC version. I've been searching for one to play (one of my favorite on Tiger) and havent found one yet and I am not good enough to create one myself.
Thanks!!!

This one I believe I could do good with.
I'm thinking of giving up on the contest anyway, only 4 holes and I bit off more than I can chew, I'm going to work on it at a slower pace, already at around 5000 objects.

i will not be doing any more real courses, its just too much work. i have only seen one rendition worth playing thus far. I'm fairly certain I can nail this one, and hey, I get my Augusta was not that pretty. I have learned quite a bit since then, I would go back and fix, but there's to many good ones out there now to bother. My Royal Montreal is pretty and playable, I have gone back into that one a dozen times and left without changing a thing. Anything I wanted to change there, was in the real thing. But it got relegated to complete obscurity.
In any event there are few real lifers out there now that are really good. Pine Valley by Craig is the best in the game, there's more than 1 Augusta now and CLV is doing a masterful job so far. CLV has forgotten more about design then I have ever learned, knows more about Augusta so I'm confident he's going to nail Augusta. Pinehurst by craig is a complete wow, he nailed that one.
This Oakmount will be easy to nail as every tidbit of information is available, problem is going to be, it's hard, really hard to play. The green slopes are monster unfair, not to the point of red and yellow around pins, but many are severe. Just on the 1 I built already, I hit right way before the pin and the ball fed all the way back left 50 feet. But that's real for that pin, you need to come in far short and roll it out to get close, even on the default speeds and firmness in Boreal.
However, In knowing this community, in the present day, this project would be a monster waste of time.
This community is coming from TW and a few from WGT where things are far far far easier. This course could be played easily on WGT and TW, it may of been a little tougher than other courses on those platforms, but there is no magical force here helping anyone with their poor decisions. I'm thinking the 16th hole at Oakmount, I would want the pin just over that right bunker, here the only birdie that would come from that hole would be a hole out. TW and WGT, slam down the backspin with your Nike ball and drop and stop. Here, you would have a full wedge back, or have to play into the bunker.
So after sleeping on this I have come to the following decision, no matter how perfect I can make it, most will not play past 1, hence this is going to be a project on the back burner, I'm going back to work on my contest entry.
I just doubt there is any interest in a real Oakmount, an Oakmount that plays really hard, I'm not at all interested in building one that can be played easy, one that I would shoot -10 or 11. If I was to build this one, my scores would be held close to even and maybe on a great day -5. But where would that put the masses. It just would not be playable by the masses, especially once I jumped the sliders to Oakmount conditions.
Sure I can probably think of 5 guys that might want to play it and would enjoy it, me being 1.
Maybe later, when people get tired of demanding courses that they can birdie every hole and bogies are rare.
So sorry OP, Unless there was an interest or a demand, I'm just not going to tackle this one.
Talk to Craig, maybe he will.

But look at Kodiak, people b%&ed big time on that, and still do, and Scott shot -12 under the pressure of Q-school to boot. Oakmount CC will make Kodiak look like a pitch and putt.

Kodiak is no Oakmont. Plus its the US OPEN its supposed to make people b%&.....Listen to the Pro's on the PGA tour every year b%& about the set up of the course...There has to be a place in the game for really hard courses or the game and the tour will get old fast.

Man - the looks of 1 you have are spot on. (as for the highway, I have no good idea on that one). I understand the hard part and is why I did not attempt this one as I can't figure out the Goldilocks zone of greens. I hope you eventually change your mind (no b%&ing from me, I can promise you that) but I understand why you're tabling it. Thanks!

I am also considering trying OCC. I actually live 5 minutes from there and caddied there for a few years. That's going to be a time consuming project. I still play the TW 10 version on PS3 all the time. I'd really be making it just for me.

Ok here's 1, ok I bumped up the fairway a bit much, flat lies are no challenge anyway. I just realised I deleted a bunker on 1, ignore that.
The highway, I figure a nice river will replace it.
So here's a play through of 1, let me know if there is still an interest. Now keep in mind, this is still default med med.
