I thought it wouldn't fit. What a monster... Had a few moments like that myself... but wow that is snug First PC I ever built (had literally no idea what I was doing), I hadn't realised that the motherboard had separate power supplies for both itself and the graphics card, needless to say starting it up made noises and not much else . Remember breaking off part of the power lead to convert from a 6 pin to a 4 pin (or something), that freaked me out, there's no going back now! All up and running? Please tell me you don't have a 4k monitor as well

Booted on the first try. Installing windows now.
I do not have a 4k monitor. Actually it's going to be connected to the TV in the living room, so for now I won't go beyond 1080p.

Nice PC mrooola! So how is playing TGC on that as opposed to your PS4? I have been considering building me one as well. A lot of the same exact components as you have. Definitely same GPU... My newest PC is circa 2009 that is "optimized" for Windows Vista...LOL, with the onboard intel integrated GPU. It is running Windows 10 now...but its is slow... Can't play any decent games on it.
Trying to justify the cost though. I switched to Mac in 2013 or so and I love my iMac for basic stuff. I also have a PS4 and XB1. XB1 to me was pretty much a waste, but it was a Christmas present... As for the PS4 I fear I might not handle TGC2 as well...and someday I do want to move to 4k. But I like the exclusives that come from Sony better than Microsoft...
But besides TGC, what games are worth playing on PC really??? That's what I keep asking myself. I'm not into Doom and things like that. I like games that have a story line to them (The Last of Us comes to mind, as does Uncharted), but I don't like wizards and things like that or street fighters or war games. Will I ever be into VR? I don't know.
Just thinking I would have more fun buying the stuff and assembling it and setting it all up than the price and usage I would give it would ever justify...

Been studying a while on getting a different GPU...I have the 960 right now.... Im almost ashamed to admit this, but last year I bought TGC around March.... Current PC wouldn't run it... So what did I do, I purchased all the parts to build my own from Amazon for right around 1000
Now I am going to upgrade me graphics card soon.... And I would spend another 1000 today to be able to play this great game if I am being honest
Let us know how well that card runs

Tgc runs like butter on any setting so that's just fine and dandy. I see the biggest benefit compared to the ps4 in the designer. It's just way way faster to do anything. I do however fear I will create courses that lags on consoles. That's the beauty of the console. If you notice any lag at any point it will lag for everyone. With this pc though nothing will lag so I can't tell when I've done too much.
So far I've only installed various games to see how things run, but I will definitely play games like cities skylines and civilization. I'm also psyched about Star Citizen if you are into space games.

One thing I'll add though. If you want a quiet pc do some research on fans and chassi. That's where you can make a difference. The GPU I've noticed makes little difference when it comes to sound so any 1070 will probably do. In hindsight I'd probably pick the MSI I originally intended to use as msi has superb software in comparison to gainward

I have spent a lot of time latterly in various PC gaming forums, just reading and I have become interested in several PC games...
My system will be pretty comparable with yours Motherboard = Gigabyte LGA1151 Intel ATX DDR4 Motherboards GA-Z170X-GAMING 6 CPU = Intel Boxed Core I7-6700K 4.00 GHz 8M Processor Cache 4 LGA 1151 GPU = EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB SC GAMING ACX 3.0 PSU = EVGA SuperNOVA 650 P2, 80+ PLATINUM 650W
Cooler = Noctua NH-U14S for Intel, U Type, 6 Heatpipe,140mm CPU Cooler Cooling RAM = Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz (PC4-25600) C16 Memory Kit HardDrive = Samsung 850 EVO - 1TB - 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E1T0B/AM) Optical Drive = LG Electronics Internal Super Multi Drive Optical Drives GH24NSC0B Case = NZXT Phantom 410 Mid Tower USB 3.0 Gaming Case - Black
It's been a while since I assembled a PC... Did you use thermal paste between the heatsink and cooler? I was going to buy some silver paste at the store locally if needed
Any other problems or issues you ran into in assembly or set up that you want to share?
For now I will run my system on my 46" plasma 1080p set. It will be a couple years at least before I move to 4k, at which time I would have to make adjustments to this build anyways... I may move to dual 27" 1080p monitors on my desk too if the spirit moves me (already have the monitors lying around).
Anyways, thanks for the thread...and the insight....

Save your money on the thermal paste. It comes with the Noctua fan and from what I've read there is no need what so ever to use any other.
Some say it's unnessesary, but I would take a second look at your motherboard as I've already regretted I didn't. Find a motherboard with strengthened pci-express slots to avoid sogging of the GPU. Those new pascal cards are big mothers.... msi has a few and should be in the same price range as the one you have. Speaking of which , I'm envious of your GPU. Wish I got that instead or the MSI gaming x.
I didn't really run in to much trouble, but make sure that GPU is the last thing you put in. Connect all wires and such first.
Last thing. I know it's not much money in it, but do you really need a optical drive?

Thanks for the heads up on the motherboard. I still have a chance to change that. I will call the guy that I am ordering the stuff from and talk to him about it.
As for the optical drive. What can I say? I am old school...plus I rip my CD's and DVD's into digital format (for personal use, not for sale). It was $14.99 US
Glad to hear the thermal paste comes with the cooler. I will use it, just to be safe...
And thanks for the tip of doing the GPU last after hooking up and running all the wires. That GPU is a big sucker and I would imagine getting around that to plug all the stuff in after its in the box would be a pain!!

I just like to raise the question as I don't know anyone who use one any longer. I almost added one myself because it's supposed to be one in there right? Then my m8 said. Why don't you throw in a floppy drive while your at it. Your "guy" might say it's unnessesary with strengthened pci-express slots. I've read it's unnessesary too. Maybe it is. But fact is even when bolted in you can tell it's sogging. At least on my rig. I've built a support for it to avoid any future problems. Good luck with your build. You will love it! Make sure to post some pics later on or give an update

mrooola - This is sort of an update/question/conversive post -- Put my computer together a few days ago. Had some issues figuring out the wiring. My case had three aux fan wires that had odd looking connectors that went nowhere. In researching it on the internet they were wires in case I wanted to add fans. The plug for the three pre-installed case fans was a molex which I finally figured out how to hook up to the PSU. First build... But other than that everything booted on the first try.
I stuck with the MB I had. In talking to the guy I bought it from, he said it already had the reinforced pci-express slots. I did not mess with any of the settings in my BIOS. I did flash the BIOS though. But my RAM speed is still 2133... Did you change any of your BIOS settings?
I notice your rig has 2 fans on your cooler... Mine has one but the PC runs very cool. Even during gaming it rarely gets past 42C. Usually in the 30's... Both at the GPU and CPU
I did not think about or realize that the MB did not include Bluetooth... And I would like to use Bluetooth to connect the PS4 controller. But you were right in that the PS4 controller connected first try with no software using USB.
Did you add Bluetooth to your rig? If so did you use an internal card or a dongle? I am thinking I might add a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo card from Gigabyte. Not sure I really need the Wi-Fi...but I hate dongles...LOL.
When I rip apart the computer to install the Bluetooth card I will snap a few pics and post them here...
Initial thoughts on TGC on PC. Like you said, it's butter... Very smooth and fast. Graphics are great...I can see those greens a lot better now. I still have less than 100% shots on occasion. So there is still the pause at the top of the swing that must happen. The drawback to me so far in gameplay is I swear the PS4 controller stick is more sensitive now. If my swing is off in the slightest it seems that the slice and hook is more pronounced.
Something weird started happening last night too. When I play TGC now, the white bar at the top of the screen remains during gameplay (says The Golf Club and has the _, X and the box but the box for maximize is greyed out). Have not figured out that yet. Loving Steam though as this is my first exposure to that. I have played 3 other games and the graphics, frame rate, etc. are so nice... The computer boots up in about 10 seconds with the SSD...
Finally, on the subject on anti-virus. So far I am going with AVG (free version) and CCleaner. I used to have Avira on an older PC, but it was constantly popping up wanting me to upgrade to paid version. I have Norton on my most recent PC before this one because I can get it for next to nothing from work, but guessing it is far to obtrusive for a gaming rig...
Appreciate the assistance and conversations... Sorry for the run-on post.

First build... You also used a nxzt chassi right? Not sure about yours but I had a built in fan module where I connected all my fans. This can be maintained from Windows to adjust fan speeds should you wish. No. I checked bios to make sure it was reading my memory at the correct speed. Other than that I did nothing I have not added Bluetooth nor will I. Not sure if you can connect your ps4 controller through it, but even if you can I won't add it. I've noticed my ps4 controller being slightly more sensitive as well. Thought that was all in my head... Are you playing tgc in windowed mode?

Sorry to burst in uninvited, but bored and lurking around the forum In Steam right click the Golf Club name in the list, select launch options, make sure windowed mode is not checked. You can also pick your resolution and quality here as well. I use windowed mode when rangering so I don't need to close down the game to post my report. Also if playing someone live you can keep a separate chat window.
