In an effort to provide a little more challenge and (perhaps) realism to this year's US Open tournament, I have received admin's approval to hold off releasing the weekend setups for Oakmont until the last possible moment. This means that no player will be able to endlessly practice the exact layout for the US Open leading up to the tournament. Much like the pros, though, you do have the ability to practice playing the course and play to potential pin locations. The pros do not know where each day's pins will be until early morning of each round, so in their practice rounds they must scout out potential hole locations and use information from previous tournaments to know where to practice. All TGCT US Open participants will get a leg up on the pros, however, as I will now provide you with the weekend pin locations for each hole: Saturday Sunday Happy practicing! This may or may not lead to an extra stroke or two of difficulty on top of these more difficult setups (I found both of these setups in testing to be more difficult than Setup A, and significantly more difficult than Setup B), but it's worth a shot to see how it goes. Once a date is confirmed as to when the actual courses will be released, I am sure I will pass that information along to you at some point.

Great idea - difficult logistics...

Okay this is just awesome. One quick question are the measurements in feet or yards?

Yards as the underlined no. under the arrow is clearly the depth of the green

It's a fair idea but people will still have a week to practice practice practice.

For as long as we can zoom and analyze every break on the green from 180yds out then practice rounds really aren't that important in my opinion. If we weren't given the zoom option, it would force players to play practice rounds and take notes which is what happens in real life. I know I'm probably different to some, but I've found no difference to my scores weather I have 0 practice rounds or 5, so I barely play them anymore and instead do my course charting while I'm competing by simply pressing the zoom button.
So personally, I'm appreciative of the work that's gone into this, but I can't see it having an effect on the scoring

Fine idea in theory, but those who want to practice it 20 times before starting will still do so, just in a shorter space of time.

I see the cynics are ruling the day here... I will press on anyways!
It may not matter, but it's at least a small step to close the practice window if only a fraction of an inch.

It is a good idea and I applaud you for doing something different and more realistic. Even if you released the last two rounds on the day the tour is created, people would still be able to practice them multiple times before having to play their rounds. They have from Saturday to Thursday to do it, so no one is being effected negatively.

Unfortunately. Would be awesome if courses could be "closed" for tournaments to remove the option to play the set ups beforehand.

Great I assume it appeals to those who believe that some players have an advantage and it comes from one thing or another. Like the wind was going to be the answer, like the ghost balls are going to be the answer, etc etc and so on and so on. I guess after the next 20 things are changed maybe then people will finally just realise their mommies were wrong and they are not the best there is or ever will be.
