Par 72 7,268 yards Green speed: Fast Firmness: Medium Watch HB Keith play and review this course: Welcome to the rainforests of Kelantan, Malaysia. Known as the "Land of Lightning", Kelantan is positioned in the north-east of Peninsular Malaysia. Separated from the rest of the country by the Titiwangsa Mountains, it has traditionally taken weeks of travel to reach, but tourism and investment and planes and boats and all that have now opened up the region. Today the rainforests welcome tourists from the wealthiest classes of South East Asian society and from across the world. Following months of painstaking construction and a dirty great load of investment from a mysterious and probably dodgy billionaire why not, the golf club at Kelantan Canopy is now set to become the region's premier attraction. The course has stunning views throughout, asks questions on every hole and there's a bar on the 18th tee to loosen you up for the clubhouse. So open your chequebook and pack your clubs - Kelantan is on the line... will you take the call? Pictures and a course guide will be posted here later on and any comments or feedback is very welcome. In the meantime, have a fun round, shoot a great score and here is a complimentary postcard for the folks back home... Enjoy!

Hi Peter,
Just played a round on Kelanton! Is it technically perfect, no sir its not! Is it an absolute blast to play, yes sir it is! What a great imagination you have! I absolutely enjoyed hacking my way around your course! so many twists, turns, major elevation changes, giant bunkers I got stuck in, huge rock formations, one hole that looked like a massive rock face, that could be a great spot for a waterfall... Man I wished I had a tenth of the imagination you have in course design... shore up some technical aspects like smoothing fairways ample room for a bailout here and there and some proper bunker construction is all it needs...
With that said, none of the technical "not so perfect" design stuff mattered to me.. I had a blast playing this course... at one point I had like 5 straight bogies or worse, but didn't care one bit! I couldn't wait until the next hole to see "what you came up with" ....
thank you for the offering... I enjoyed it tremendously....

Glad you enjoyed the experience Terry! The difficulty cranks up quite a bit on the back 9 - my best scores in testing came when I collected early birdies and then protected them but I've only shot double-digits once. There are generally safe options available but I've tried to create temptations on every hole as well - wanted to make an impression with something a bit different with this as it's my first course. I've got a couple of ideas atm for a more dialled-down countryside course next which will be more conducive to improving the certain technical elements.
On the other hand, I've started this Alpine project...... :S

First course You are kidding ? Wow makes it even more impressive ! Like I stated in the review the imagination you showed on this one was absolutely outstanding ... And honestly I couldn't wait to see what awaited me hole to hole .... This is the type course that keeps me coming back for more ! Again I loved it and it should get plenty of plays in my opinion because it's a load of fun to play ... Keeping eye out on future courses to see what you come up with Terry

I saw this course on the WIP earlier and was very impressed by your level of detail. I'll definitely give this a go soon. The planting looks awesome.

Yes I forgot to say there are plenty more photos to view here, most from the first half of the course: tgctours.proboards.com/thread/6561/kelantan-canopy-malaysiaI'll drop a few more images here once I decide on hole names and do a bit of a write up - naming the holes is my reward for finally finishing

First design? Okay then... wow... I'd say you've set yourself the bar very high for any upcoming projects with that!

I played this yesterday and had a blast. There are some really cool design features in this course and it is clear that alot of work was put into it. A must play for everyone to see the unique design in this course. I gave it a 9 and added to my favorites. Awesome job!

Hole 1: "Kelantan"
This was going to be called "Priest's Dilemma" but when you have a 10ft high KELANTAN stamped across the fairway it's a bit like tattooing "Susan" across your forehead and wondering why they won't call you "Big Dog", which every self-respecting gentleman secretly craves. Ok it's nothing like that. But you still have a problem to solve at the outset. Do you cut the corner into a minefield for a short approach, play it straight and safe but leave it long, or find the island in the middle as a compromise? The answer, my friend, is probably blowing in the wind...

Hole 2: "Three Blind Mice"A short one with a sharp dogleg around Simba's Horn. You'll need to decide how much value there really is here in going wild off the tee. (Don't do it).

Hole 3: "E-Type"
Either play to remove some distance or for a flat lie, you can't have it both ways unless the wind's at your back and your drive through the trees is perfection. Catch the bunker complex banking the green and you have just become entertainment for the clubhouse restaurant above. Make sure you put on a show.
