Question- Why are these stableford points on a linear scale? If an eagle is only 1 more point than a birdie which is only 1 point more than a par, why not just play standard scoring.
Here's what I think when I see stableford: Bogey: 1 Par: 2 Birdie: 4 Eagle: 6 Albatross or hole in one: 8

Actually, the modified stableford used in pro tournaments is: Double+: -3 Bogey: -1 Par: 0 Birdie: 2 Eagle: 5 Albatross: 8
This system would be MUCH better for our purposes because it encourages aggressive play by pro level talent. You need birdies to score, bogies don't hurt much, and eagles are a tremendous bonus. The system the game currently uses scarcely distinguishes itself from stroke play and removes ALL of the strategy that stableford should provide.
I think the (flawed) logic that HB uses is that their system is the one used by amateurs, and we all know that our player in TGC is just a regular "weekend warrior" type. Nevermind about him shooting in the 50s routinely, he is everyman!
I've mentioned this to them on their forum, shockingly they didn't seem to care much. So we are left with a stableford system that lacks all sense of strategy or nuance. We may as well just play stroke play.

I agree that stableford should be the modified rules but -
There is the odd occasion when an awful hole can put you out if a tournament, this gives you a 2nd chance
I love how you see total scoring for you and all ghosts when playing. You don't get that on stroke play. Please don't change it.

Fair point, but it would seem easy for them to at least give an option for modified stableford, and then we lose none of the benefits (blow-ups don't completely kill you, running score) and gain the added fun and strategy that the modified system would provide. I see absolutely no reason why they can't add the modified stableford option, on the list of easy fixes to make to a golf game this would have be at the very top.
