Most of you don't know that I have a 13-year-old son, Eli, who has autism. The powers-that-be here at TGC had named a tournament this year on the CC level the "Autism Speaks Charity Championship" in honor of my son, for which I was greatly appreciative. When I told Eli about it, he said "they having a tournament for me?" and his face lit up. I didn't have the heart to say it wasn't just his tournament, so I let him believe it. Then today I found out that officially they are using my course King Memorial at Creole Isle for the tournament. I'm having to make a few changes to the course per request of the PTB, so we're doing something a little different than most tournament courses. We're going to do a 4 pin setup (not unusual) but we're going to change the name of the course for this tournament to Eli's Course. Eli is going to be here this weekend, so he's going to help by telling me where to place trees or things in the areas that changes were requested, he's going to determine the weather for each of the four days of the tournament and I'm also going to let him pick pin locations (from suggestions from his dad and the TGC staff, of course.) Eli's already informed me he wants to record a video for all the people playing in "his golf game" so that will be coming the week of the tournament right after Thanksgiving week in the USA. So THANK YOU again to TGC's staff for being so gracious to me, my son and also for helping promote autism awareness. Below is a picture of Eli when he was playing "buddy ball", a league for special needs children where they hit on their own but have a "buddy" to assist them in the field. (Eli's a lot like his daddy in that he loves sports, especially NASCAR. We can't go anywhere during a race without "NASCAR on the radio!")

And that's what makes mankind unique. We don't know each other, but our support is full. And in what is really important, the daily details. Irving, give Eli a big hug in my name. And let him play your rounds, maybe you have a chance then to win a tourney

Well, Autism Speaks is a national organization that raises money for research and awareness, so the tournament name is actually great as is.

This is fantastic! I love it! If I somehow find the time, I'll play that tournament too (even I'm signed up on another Tour).
