Ooo, I sense the start of a new rivalry, all friendly of course. All my uncles are Spurs fans, in their younger days, they went to England a couple times a year. The first football shirt I got was the Spurs centenary year shirt way back when I was 10. I have a brother whose a villa season ticket holder but the less said about that the better! I am more a rugby fan than football though. Anyway, having rivals adds to the fun of the game, some day I might actually beat one of mine!

The Welch and Irish had to many injuries but we're also just outplayed, The French were just shite, and the Scots were robbed. The semi finals should be good though. I will add you to my ever growing rivals list which if the past is anything to go by, you will be modelling speedos with the rest of the web.com tour in about 4 weeks!

I'm afraid that Dan Sheehan is not able to report on his final round today, he is not feeling up to writing at the moment, his head not in the right place for now. He has hired me, a world famous journalists, to write the report for him. I shall not give my name, it will only distract from the story of a golfer and his battle to find his form. This might not make pleasant reading, unlike fiction, there will not be a dramatic last minute comeback, this report will be raw and honest, a perfect insight of a struggling challenge circuit golfer.
Daniel Sheehan looked despondent as he approaches the first tee, the pain is clear to see, etched on his face as if a sculptor had carved the loneliness and sadness directly onto his skin. He knew he was struggling but could not explain why, less than a month ago he was fighting for a win times have changed and it has become a battle for survival. He glances at the leaderboard, he had promised himself to ignore the lead board this round, to focus on his game but something draws his eyes toward it, he is powerless to resist, a unseen power turns his head forcing him to see his name languishing at the bottom of the leaderboard. There will be no welcome home parade for this golfer, no open top bus ride through throngs of fans cheering his victory, he has let himself, his family, his country down, with a heavy sigh, he turns back and stares down towards the first green from the elevated tee box. The first hole is deserted, the golfing fans have moved off to watch the battle at the top. He takes a iron from his bags wishing the day was done but in truth it is just beginning
The first shot of the day is important, it can instill confidence, it can shatter a golfers mind. Dan Sheehans first shot of the day was sliced. It was not a big slice but it was enough for the ball to hit the wrong side of the green, for it to roll away from the hole rather towards it. As Dan begins his walk toward the green, a lone voice shatters the silence " you suck hippy" Dan looks around but there is no one in sight, with a shake of his head, he walks to the green. A long putt is what he arrives to, he knows a birdie is out of the question, he lags the ball close and taps in for par. Not the dream start he would has wished for but dreams are hard to come by these days. A tree stands alone in the middle of the second fairway, proud and majestic, yet to Dan it feels out of place, it feels like he does. There is no need to hit long on the second hole, he takes a five wood from his bag and with a gentle swing he finds the centre of the fairway. It is this second shot that he has struggled with all week, 97 yards, it should be easy with a sand wedge but yet again he leaves himself short, instead of a 4 or 5 foot putt, it is 11 foot. There is slight left to right break, Dan adjusts his aim once, then twice before returning back to where he originally aimed. The ball travels slowly towards the hole, the line is right but is the speed, the sound of the ball hitting the cup answers that question. Dan clenches his fist a little as he moves to the third hole. Dan wants to eagle this hole, it was a target of his since round one, a target he has failed to reach. His first drive of the day comes close to the rough but stays on the fairway, he now has his chance, his approach has to be perfect but as the ball leaves the club head, he knows he has hit it to hard and it rolls off the green. Dan has been working hard on his chip shots in practice, could he bring this to skill to bare fruit on tour, yes he can. His smile lights up his face, the difference one shot can make is astounding and when his birdie putt drops on the next hole, he stands that bit straighter, he walks that bit faster, he feels that bit better.
The fifth hole brings him back down to earth a little as he fail to find the green in two. He needed that error to slow himself down. He made par but more importantly, he remembered he needed to play with care. His second drive of the day found the centre of the fairway. As he walked towards his ball, he felt a shiver run down his spine, the hairs on his arms stood up. Dan was convinced this hole was haunted, he know he should of kept his thoughts to himself but the way his ball had rolled of the green the previous three days was not natural. They could laugh all they wanted in the locker room, he know it was true. The thoughts of seeing the ghost caused Dan to miss the green to the right, a blessing in disguise maybe, avoiding another ghostly pushed putt. This turned out to be the case, he chipped to within 2 feet, tapped in for birdie and ran of that green so fast, you with think the devil himself was chasing him. Dan was out of breath when he reached the seventh hole, his arms felt weak as he took his tee shot and he failed to get any distance, the ball dropping 10 yards short in the rough. The two previous chips though had given him some self belief, he was sure he could chip this close. What he did not expect was to chip it in, what he expected less was to hear a smattering of applause. Word had gotten around that Dan was having a good front nine, word had gotten around that it might be worth watching. Dan did not know how to feel about this, he wanted to be seen, he wanted to feel like he had a roll to play on this tour. He did not want the added pressure that a audience brings. He had started this round lonely and down, as the shots went in and confidence built, the loneliness disappeared. He did not want it to return, but most of all, he did not want it to return while surrounded by people.
The pressure got to him on the very next show with a wayward drive, he was to far in the rough for a chip, a pitch shot was his only option. Dan felt this could be the most important shot of his round so far, getting the ball close meant the good round continued, getting it wrong might bring the round crashing down. He spent what seemed to be a eternity standing over the ball. He tried not to listen to the impatient muttering from the crowd, he held his breath as the ball rolled past the hole, when the ball stopped just 2 feet past, his knees staggered a little, his round was still alive. The ninth is a hole which Dan had birdied each time so far this tournament, that was not going to change now. 8 under after nine holes, he wished this round would never end, he also wished the round would finish now. There was a doubt creeping in to the back of his mind, a voice telling him it was not possible to keep this up. He pushed those thoughts away, what ever happened on the back nine, he had redeemed himself as both a man and golfer.

Hi all, I thought it would be fun to report on my round as a outsider looking in, what I did not expect was for it to go on for so long. I am cutting the post in half for a couple of reasons, to give any readers a break, also in fear that something would happen and I would lose the post. So read on if not bored yet, skip if my inability to keep it short and precise annoys.

The start of the back nine felt like a whole new round, the first hole seemed like a distant memory. Truth be told, Dan was starting to feel angry, with himself for doubting his ability, with the press for the mocking and cruel reports of his first three rounds, with the fans for only watching when he played well. That anger needed to be controlled and channeled, or that anger could destroy his round. The tenth hole is another that Dan has struggled on, he needed to avoid bogey here. " nothing risky or stupid" Dan said to himself over and over, it became a mantra in his head, nothing risky or stupid. He found the fairway with his drive, it was a little worrying how quickly he walked down the fairway, it seemed he just wanted to hole over and done with, it seemed like he was not listening to himself. His approach landed 13 feet from the pin, a putt with a lot of left to write break, get this wrong and he could be facing a similar putt back. He got it wrong, he stared as the ball rolled ten feet away, he relived that putt over and over, it was replaying in his mind as he hit his par putt to hard, it was still replaying as he tapped in for bogey. How he recovered from this would set the tone for the rest of his round.
Dan took so many practice swings on the next hole that the crowd began to think he had lost his nerve. When he finally took his shot, it did not fly staight, the ball seemed to travel in slow motion as it cleared a tree and the rough to land in the fairway. It visibly lifted the tension from both Dan and the crowd and the cheer when he sunk his birdie putt could be heard through out the course. Dan left himself with a tricky 21 foot putt for birdie on the next hole. The putt was up hill which allowed him to hit the ball hard with out serious risk, he aimed 2 feet to the left of the cup and hit the ball hard, it was online the entire way, straight in the centre of the cup, easily his best putt of the four rounds. What a way to recover from that dropped shot, back to back birdies. I will always wonder why he went for the green in two on 13, laying up would have pretty much guaranteed a birdie, a birdie that would have brought him to double figures. In some ways, this is why I think Dan is still in the challenge circuit, he does not always play smart. Yes, he did not drop a shot but a birdie here could really have pushed on his round and when he made birdie on 14, it made his choice of risk the previous hole seem more stupid.
With four holes to play, it was clear to all that Dan was tiring, he seemed both physically and mentally drained. It had been a long day and it was impossible to go through those range of emotions with out it having some effect. Could he hold on over four more holes, it was a question on everyone's lips. He had not been hitting his tee shots straight over the last few holes and this continued on 15. He could not repeat his 20 foot putt this time but seemed happy to take par. On the next hole, he again fail to hit his tee shot straight, the wide fairway took away any risk of finding the rough. The green was not reachable in two and taking away this choice was clearly good for Dan, a easy birdie was the result on what could have been a risky situation. With two holes to play, Dan was in a strange situation, the fight was gone out of him, he had achieved more than he thought possible but it also left him not caring about the last two holes, he just wanted to go home. Despite this, he came so close to chipping in for eagle again, the ball rolled around the lip of the cup but refused to drop, there was a wry smile on his face as he picked his ball from the cup, just one more to play. Dan did not attempt to go for birdie on the last, he played for the centre of the green, lagged carefully to take his par. I wanted to ask him why he did not got for a sub sixty round but I thought better off it. I saw what was a broken man being slowly rebuilt, this was not the time for reflection, this was Dans time. As the crowd dispersed, he stood on the green looking at the sun setting over the ocean. It was hard to tell what he was thinking, was he reliving the past or planning the future. What ever it was, there was one thing made clear. Daniel Sheehan was not finished yet.
As Dan walked back to the clubhouse, it was time for me to reflect on my day. I saw a man recover from the depths, golf an be a lonely sport, at times you are battling not just the course but your body and mind also. Today Dan Sheehan won that battle, but could he win the war. There is a long road ahead, one I am sure there will be many ups and downs. I can not predict the future but I think he will be just fine.

2nd in the exemptions by 5 strokes!!! Looks like I may be moving up to CC-A. :crossesfingers: Also flirting with a top 5, but I dont think my final round score of -8 will get me to it. Sitting at tied for 5th right now, and with the new exemption rules, I'd get a chance at Web. What I really want to do is to thank Dan.... being his rival has really propelled me into new heights. Just a word of advice to anyone who is in a lull in their game like I was.... become a rival of Dan. He will push you to be the golfer your thumbs were meant to be!!!!!

My pleasure, now if you want to follow in the footsteps on my previous rivals, you need to go to the web.com next. Based on your scores, I think that is more than possible. It was not a good tournament for me, with my last round being better than all other 3 combined. At least the last round proved I can still play, just need to put four rounds together instead of 1 per tournament. I bet that would have the web boys running scared, having to read my round reports instead of short ones, I guess they would all run to the euro tour if that happened!

I think this was the first time I ever led a tourney after 2 rounds. Granted I have only played in less than 10 events I don't feel too bad about that.
It's funny how I fall apart in this game just like real golf. terrible third round to choke the tourney away, followed up with a -13 on the final day.
Oh well, there is always next week!
