67-69-70-67 for -15. Played well enough but didn't make enough putts and put myself in some impossible spots on the greens that led to inevitable bogies. Given how difficult this course is i think i will still finish well. Winner will be into the 20's though i think. Gotta say, massively enjoyed the season but think i'm ready for a little break now. See most of you in Dubai for the Grand Finale!

That's at least a Top10-finish! Great score!

I really can't stand the greens on this course, you hit a decent shot and end up with a 50ft+ putt with 3ft of slope to hit up. I got to -3 early on then had two 4 putts in a row.

I played this almost as soon as it opened to get it out of the way. I don't mind sloped greens but matched with the firmness, I'd rather smash my nuts with a mallet. Opened with 67, thanks to an eagle on the par 4 16th I believe. Followed that with a 69,72, and 73 for a -7 finish. My goal on this course was to shoot even for the tourney so I'm happy and glad it's over. Royal Ballylough and next week's finale our more in line with what I think is challenging but fair. I might feel differently if HB ever makes the fringe area respond more realistic and even the firmest of greens not behave like one is hitting onto a parking lot.

Well, that was a massive challenge! You really have to concentrate, and those greens are BEEPing ridiculous. Finished -13, which I'll take. But Biggins needs a slap...

Its the combination of three factors that annoyed me. Massive slopes on the greens that are very firm and the course is long with a number of par 4's around the 500 yard mark. Add all those together and you end up spending most of the round watching your ball roll all over the place after most approach shots.

As stated in another thread, hit and hope and marble madness. Numerous holes I played a well thought out shot and executed as required only to see the ball take on a mind of its own. My worst example was on the 12th where whilst I agree that a reachable par four should carry an element of risk, aiming to the rough on the left of the green to have it somehow navigate its way across the green and out of bounds on the right is ridiculous. Currently -2 under after 3, part of me hopes I don't make the cut to save me the pain of another 18 holes.
As you can probably tell, hate it hate it hate it....

Got to agree with most another decent course spoilt by firmness. No fun at all. I was leading on ps4 until hole 10 when i hit the edge of a bunker in the middle of thr fairway and bounded straight right into the .O.B great stuff. Greens went mental after that too

I like these conditions. -4 after round 1, but I'll state the same when I put up a +4 in round 2. Only problem I have, is with hole 12. An OB next to the green is a little too much. Glad I hit it OB in my practice round so I knew where NOT to hit

A few.times i got in positions where i couldnt reach the hole without chipping. I didnt for fear of.being dqed but is it ok to chip if this happens in future?

From tgctours.com/Home/RulesPolicies : Putter must be used on the green unless your line is obstructed by fringe/rough/bunker, in which case use of a putter is not mandatory. I think, if there is a possible case where you can't reach the hole, but there is no obstruction, you still need to use the putter. Haven't had that myself though.

It happenned to me during a practice round here, on the 6th. Pin was back right and i ended up front left of the huge uphill green. Couldn't make it but just hit the putt as hard as i could and took the 3 putt. And learnt not to end up there again

The 11th, SPIN BACK HOLE. Its one of those if you are in the FW or fringe and have 20 to 40yds to pin you are NOT gunna keep it on the green, and since you cant bump and run a chip its just a guess.Your better off in the light rough cause those flops and pitches wont spin back, so actually try to aim for rough. I think the 11th will play the hardest just cause of that pin. I don't mind playing a firm, fast, course. But when you add all the red to something that fast its not the best outcome. Some of you may remember Shakespeare, its a lot like that hit it and hope you get the right bounce or roll. Ill be happy shooting 4 rounds of even par even in low winds. I gotta have a top finish to make it to Wadi Sigi, gunna be tough here. Watch 11 guys its a bad pin placement. Love the layout just could've still been tough with white lines on greens as firm as it is. GL to all !!
