I am thinking (and this is assumption) that all the 1500+ point players, who I have as the top 22 and above are "safe" from falling out of the top 30 as #31 is 1150. 350+ is solo 7th and above, and 22nd and up are 8 spots above 30th and 9 spots above 31st. But... I would try to do well. You may surprise yourself and jump up the board with a solid finish. Even if one does not win, putting up their best efforts and posting a solid FedEx finish is a goal. All top 30 positions have a payout in PGA $$$. Yes, that doesn't mean much, but pride and/or competition for some is a motivator.I'm 21st and am only 150 points in and 39th spot is 200 points away. So I would assume that means I need to finish within the top 21 (50 points x 4 =200) to ensure my spot mathematically, but as you said realistically I might just have to finish the tourney and may be safe doing nothing special. All depends on how those below me play. I'd rather play myself in than to have to sit around and hope others don't play well enough
Good luck in the playoffs.
I was reading your goals post, and I would offer to look at my shiny new tags under my stats page. For me, those were both goals I exceeded just 6 weeks ago. It may be ho-hum to the regulars here, but that is just in 13 tournaments.
