Front 9 is open for play... RB test. Get out there With all the hype regarding Links golf I have decided to join in. This course has been designed with a Royal Portrush vibe in mind. With a course built into its natural landscape this course will be sure to be a stern test if golfing ability. Characterised by its fairways that nestle in valleys between towering sand dunes, undulating greens and a mixture of traditional and modern penalising bunkering. The first 4 holes play down the coast to the postcard par 3 5th. Course Conditions are as follows: Firmness: 2:30pm (med/firm) Speed: 139ft (slow/med) Clear Summer Skies

Wow, this is gonna be a beauty n the beast course. Visually amazing. Played in 17mph winds and whew. Glad there was only 9,Im exhausted. Lol, really thought this was great. All I gotta say is par 3 5th hole. Downhill, water frames the right side of the hole. I stand on the tee with 17mph winds blowing at 2 oclock! I think I wet my pants... Looking forward to dry pants and the full release of this course. Looking good Rod

Seems great on first play-through. Played with a hell of a hangover though. Enjoy the firm but slower speed. Do you think it could go slightly slower even? Or would that ruin the ball run off speeds? Fav hole maybe the 9th, daunting long par 3 with all those lovely drop offs. Fairways bit too tight (for my liking) as it gives you an enclosed claustrophobic feeling, if thats what you were going for it worked :-)

Thanks Os, I'm happy with the speed. Any less and it will kill the roll and affect putting to much so it will stay where it is. It's actually slightly less than halfway on the meter so it's pretty slow but still rolls truly with the slopes. I too am really happy with the 2 par 3s on the front side, tricky propositions. And yeah the fairways do seem on the narrow side but I think it's just the mounding and so forth that give you a closed in sensation, also they are all subtlety sloped from the outsides in, so you will never bounce near the sides of the fairways and get an unfortunate bounce into the rough so this in a sense to me adds to the width that I think are very reasonable to begin with even in the winds. Glad you enjoyed your round and look out for the full release!

Rod..
Just spectacular work so far.... The terrain work is just great in my opinion... Loved the greensites.... Obvious skill with the designer.. Going to be a great course upon completion

Rod are you going to be putting this course into the new linksish theme?

you guys must be really excited to do the firmest fairways (for rollouts etc) with more manageable greens. Should make for some really interesting setups. Will make hitting the green (and not fringe/fairway) a major part of the gameplan for those setups - hopefully it's not too jarring.

Either perfect or bounching over the green.... I wonder how second bounce will be. Skip and bite type of physics would be great but I doubt it.

Shorter irons seem to bounce and spin pretty well on here actually, so that should help.
