Rd 1&2 total -12.
Headed into weekend with high hopes knowing that the weather forecast was for more wind like on day 1. Some great early scores meant the clubhouse lead was -26 ahead of a group of 3 at -25. Onto the days play.....
Rd 3. A solid grinding effort knowing that a -6 or better was needed in trying conditions. Solid ball striking and a few unkind bounces made it hard to maintain focus but only 1 dropped shot was made and 6 birdies meant I was just off the mark but alive going into final day..... A par on the 18th tho left a salty taste and it was off to the bar to wash it away
Rd 4. A solid start on 1 and a tap in par, hole 2 a chip in from off the back of the green for eagle and got the start I needed. A poor shot on the first par 3 found the bunker but a nice out and a close call avoided with a tap in par. A birdie at the next par 5 seen me move to -4 for the day and was -5 after 9 and -22 for the week. A solid back 9 was a chance at a great result. A bogey at the signature par 3 with another plug in the bunker out me on the back foot but rallied with a couple of birdies either side and another at the par 3 15th had me to -24. 3 holes to play and 2 birdies needed. As was the case with the last round I was dead into wind on 16 and although a 5wd approach had me to 17ft for bird I under borrowed and one got away. 17 again greeted me with a solid tailwind. Laying in fairway with 150yds remaining I went for the hold up 9 against the wind and hoped for a soft landing. It worked only for the ball to continue to trickle left of the mark. 26ft straight up the hill for bird and I just brush the edge of the hole. Hopes are dashes knowing that 18 is playing very long into the prevailing winds. A 3rd shot from 96yds flies the pin and rests on the back fringe(as was the case in round 3). The chip which slid by on the right hand side in round 3 now slides by the left in round 4 for a tap in par and remain a couple strokes back at -24.....
An exciting tournament and a great result has my confidence back on the up. Good luck to all still out on the course, because hey! A little bit never hurt anyone
