Monteagle is a Metatropic-Mallahan course, one of our entries in the Dynamic Duos contest. Its sister course is Marymount. (mmallahan)The courses are set in adjoining valleys in the Southern Appalachian state of Tennessee, about 90 minutes south of Nashville. Monteagle plays on a steep hillside leading down to the Buffalo river. There are big elevation changes and grand views. Pick blue or black tees for a competitive challenge, or take it easy on the whites and reds. Green speeds are default medium fast. Moderate and fast both play well. it’s windy in Tennessee; any wind direction will do, but pick SW if playing with very high winds.

Another stunning course. Love the elevation changes and I played with high SW wind. The use of feature dead trees looks great and nice selection of grasses.

I don't approve of this. Looks like you are not spending enough time on Morfontaine Grand Parcours and/or the Valliere Par 3 courses.
This is becoming like watching your favorite HBO shows. You don't know when you will have time to see them, but you know it is a new week and there is a new episode and it will most likely be pretty good.
Cool to see a Tennessee environment, something I'm not that familiar with and have only seen with the course from National Treasure, was it Yazoo National? as well as a half assed LiDAR version of The Honors Course.
I am currently "out of the country" on a long trip around the world playing the 2K21 classics for a possible blog. When I return to these lands, I will be sure to play it.
Picks look great bud.

Hey metatropic,
Congrats on you and mmallahan publishing for Duos. The courses certainly fit together. Love the environment and excellent views overall. You have some interesting and challenging holes. Cambers are a constant challenge for the player.Good luck in the competition.

Here’s the mattf27 verdict! ouch… I get it; more polish. Get better at designing holes…I’ll try! Although feeling somewhat demoralised…

The old saying you get out what you put in. I really liked Ballantrae Links and Milton Heath by you. But from there you started producing courses at break neck pace and the quality of the courses started to drop. Frankly speaking as well, it also gets a little insulting to a lot of us that spend so much time on individual courses when we see someone publish courses at such high frequency that all need more time and care taken. I know Matt’s words feel harsh to you but I would urge you to listen because, I believe, they come from a frustration because he sees potential for these courses to be better. The other thing is this is a hobby for YOUR enjoyment. So if you enjoy producing so many courses at this pace then have at it. But when you submit them without the time and polish you are going to get feedback like this. You have a good eye visually and you have a creative mind. Just if your goal is to produce Tour Worthy courses then you need more time and to develop a self critical eye to take that next step.

You’re doing great mate, don’t get down. I’m only on my second fictional course but I already know this one won’t be as good as my first and I’m preparing for it to be ripped apart! They obviously see potential for you and have taken the blunt option to lay it out for you.
Not sure if it’ll help with your strategy but a method I’ve found to work best is marking out where the hazards will be first on the tee shot and where the heroic drive will be and where the timid tee ball will be and then drawing lines from those points to the potential green site. Those lines then give me an idea of how to create the green site so it rewards the heroic tee ball but poses questions for the timid tee ball rather than building the green first and trying to find the potential approach strategy from there.
Also been trying to implement a “is that really necessary” approach with hazards, asking myself is that bunker really needed? Is it to frame or to penalise?
Not sure if that’ll help but I’ve found by playtesting continuously through the build I’m constantly doing things like removing a centre bunker or extending / flattening a landing area to make sure it’s more playable and always tweaking sightlines if I’m finding them dull or not tying in with the hole.
Hope that helps mate and keep up the good fight!

I didn’t realise that publishing courses so quickly was upsetting people! I have been trying hard to be more polished, and for this course in particular Mitch and I took a lot of care and checked each others courses repeatedly. The speed of my process is partly a personality thing; I’m generally quick and decisive about lots of things, serves me well in life for the most part. But appreciate that stepping back more and more attention to detail would not go amiss.

This is a fantastic rendition of a southeastern Tennessee course. I don't play Tours, I don't need a "Tour" course to enjoy my round. I'm a casual player on Master. I have played this several times, most courses I play once and done. So whatever my opinion is worth to you I tip my cap to you sir for a job well done.
