I am pleased to announce to you, in collaboration with BrendanOR123 , a new team based contest! A chance to work with and learn from others in the community, and hopefully to produce a cool collection of courses and have some fun in the process. Details are to be confirmed pending interest, but the initial concept is looking to work as follows:
Teams of 4 (assigned either randomly or through a draft) - this may change depending on numbers
Each member to produce their own course, but can - and indeed should - work with teammates (no file sharing to keep it fair on consoles though) to discuss ideas, as there will be required elements that teams must work together to complete
Courses should be different but complimentary (for example, a British links course, and American links course, a heathland and a desert resort) - it would be good to have a "theme" connecting a team's courses to one another
Required elements will be divided up as team challenges, rather than individuals
Examples of potential team challenge elements (assuming teams of 4):
A maximum of 100 bunkers across all 4 courses, split however you see fit
A maximum of 27000 yards across all 4 courses
Each course to have a different par
All courses to fit within a predefined total area (likely 4,000,000 square yards)
Courses to share a "distinguishing element" of design, such as a signature bunker or similar
I suppose you could consider this thread an official launching of the contest if you want to, but rules and dates are to be finalised once we have an idea of numbers. As I imagine this could be a side project for many, the design window will likely be a little longer than the usual 3 months for the main design contests. If you're keen, let us know below! Thanks!
EDIT: I will be hosting an official contest launch stream on Sunday evening at 7pm GMT (8pm UK time, I think 3pm Eastern?) and will be posting the video to YouTube after, with all important dates included.
