Dear TST enthusiasts,
For this week's California Classic, I'm taking you to the wonderful California Golf Club of San Francisco (Cal Club). There's a bit of everything this week, with some wind, variable greens speeds and easier holes and more challenging ones.

Oh it's not the winds it's the greens. Cremated my putter at the end of this. Lovely play tee to green, shambles on it. One of those days when I was better off missing the green. Had a 5 putt, not done that since I first started this TST stuff!! Came off with a Round 1 +2.
Thoroughly enjoyed the course and looking forward to getting back out there.
With my new putter!!

Not a good start. +9, +4. No feel for the greens. Fine course, just bad play on my part.

Round 2 was another atrocious outing with the putter, never missed so many 5 foot putts. Another +2.
Off to dig my old putter out of the ashes. It wasn't him, it was me!

A bit of sunlight on the greens would be nice. Either full on cloudy and gloomy or shadows everywhere. Tough to gauge the amount of break unless you're hitting a return putt or you're 2 feet away.
Most of my decent length putts were sheer luck.

Round 2: -7
Round 3: E Aaaaaaaaarrrggghhhhj!!!!*
* was a few holes into round 3 and then noticed my distances on wedges were off… then, to my disgust, noticed my wedges had different distances than they’re supposed to have… Excited the round and looked at my bag… One of the fittings on my wedges had disappeared!!! Just, without me doing anything. WTF???
Anyway, cannot get my wedges back to how they were - angry - went back into the round but shouldn’t have…
Pffff, this game is sooo maddening sometimes.

Thinking all fittings were online based like skills. I reinstalled Windows 11 about a month back. Installed the game and lost about 60% of my fittings which were pretty good across the club range. Managed to get my putter, woods and wedges up to a good standard. But a month later all my irons including stupidly PW which is a wedge not an iron are limited to a crappy grey head fitting and a bog standard green shaft fitting. My fitting rewards are awful now all low stats hybrid or putting fittings, forgot what a purple fitting reward arter a round looks like. Not that I dislike the challenge of iron play in the game without fittings. |

Decided to crack on with Rounds 3 and 4 despite the fact my caddy was in the clubhouse with a putter wrapped round his neck. Well, he gave me the club so his fault right? Anyhows, I'm from the lower levels of CC so not too posh to carry my own clubs. Managed to drag back to Even over the week. An eagle on the 17th was wasted by a 3 putt on the final hole stopping me getting under par. Loved the course, been looking closely at BaconJunkie1 catalogue lately and there's some great stuff in there. Looking forward to playing a few more of his as the season progresses.  |

I won't start a TST tournament unless I have time to finish. So skipped last week.
I should just play a practice round before I started as I haven't played this course before.
Round one just giving the putts slightly less break than needed, I really like the 155 speed though I have been putting well on different speeds lately. So not a great first round, average tee to green and on the dance floor also for a 72 (E) .
Round 2 tee to green very good and holed a lot of good putts but frustratingly missed a 6 footer for birdie on 18. A 65 (-7) in round 2.
Very nice course and a perfect sep up 👍.

Good start this week. Burnt a few edges, but hit the ball pretty well. -3, -4 at the halfway mark. Should make the cut hopefully 🤔. Very nice course. Great choice Frans.

First Round in the books. Score doesn't matter but the tension, nerves and increased heart rate I felt throughout the round was annoying. Stupid game and leaderboard that doesn't mean anything messing up my swing. I got to get my mind right and just go out there and sling it! I was lucky to par the easier and scoreable holes like 4, 7, and 17. 92% FIR and 72% GIR felt good. I do admit that the nerves and the tension make the rush feel better. Next Round, High Winds... YEAH... Three Cheers for Frans!!

Round 2 Finished and I got into the clubhouse with the same score as Round 1. Only this time the ride was WILD. Hit the rough on hole 1 with the first two shots but got a miracle hole out from 90 yards for Eagle. Bogies ensued shortly after, and nerves were wrecked. Pulled it together to bridie 17 and made another miracle on 18 with an uphill zig zag 31-foot putt for bird! That's it for True Sim till the weekend. I mean it this time. I'm not going to rush into round 3 and 4. I promise!

If the game hadn’t screwed me over in round 3, I would have had a really solid week… 😂😂😂

Make that a pair of -22 Frans. This course was perfect for this amateur TST player. No water and not too many mysteries on the greens. I think this might be my best score ever. I've posted a snapshot of my stats. Mainly focusing on Fairways in regulation, almost 90% and Greens in regulation, 86%. With those figures you have to get a few birdies even if you're putting is your weakness. No bogies in the final 2 rounds certainly helps as well 😉. More of these please Frans 🙏.  |
