Heaton Park. Not for the faint hearted when it comes to the walking but actually has some really unique and challenging holes I knew that was heaton park soon as you described that hole, I hate that course Hahahah can’t say i hate it. But it’s definitely something. Have you ever played Marland in Rochdale? Think i prefer it out of the two

Back when I played Tilden Park near Berkeley, the par 3 fourth tee was on a promontory overlooking the green. The tee area has since been repurposed into a parking area to ease the horrid parking conditions for the Botanical Garden across the street. However, back then, you basically need to either chip it or hit a short pitch, because that green was about a hundred feet below you and your tee shot would carry. It might have measured 120 yards but with the drop off if you expected to hit it anywhere near that it was going to overshoot and land in a pond that has also been removed. When was this? Every time I've played there, the 4th tee is behind the 3rd green.

Never played Cypress, but Lake Chabot is in Oakland and still thriving. I used to play Tony Lema in San Leandro, Franklin Canyon (which is closing) and DIablo Creek GC in Concord.

There used to be a Lake Chabot in Vallejo. It's the current site of Marine World. Longshot on that one. Franklin was my home track. It's closing? I've heard of the RV Park being kicked around for a few years, but it always sounded like no one had their ducks in a row. Is there a newer update on the matter?

This is the latest from the city of Hercules:

When I lived in Martinez I used to play Franklin Canyon a lot. Up and down the canyons, walking it was a pain, but it had some interesting holes. It is a shame it is going to be an RV park but that will be a nice place to take your RV.

Conditioning has been an issue for a few years now, but this is a tragedy. I'll be back in March, so I'll be sure to play it a few times. Delta View was another great layout victim to California real estate.

I don't know what to expect from an RV park being there. I'm just hoping it's secure because being so close to a major thoroughfare might attract those who might prey upon the RVers. What really ticks me off is that Franklin Canyon and the Hercules City Council tried to get a hotel built there 10-12 years ago in an effort to attract the PGA and/or Korn Ferry, but the short-sighted Hercules population voted it down. Then they turn around and approve this? Uggh.

I played Tilden a number of times, and also Lake Chabot quite a bit. Remember the 600+ yard par 5 #18 that you could reach in two if you could hit a long enough drive to get rolling down the hill lol?

Remember the 600+ yard par 5 #18 that you could reach in two if you could hit a long enough drive to get rolling down the hill lol? Cannot remember which hole I was playing at Chabot, but the green was massive and I waaaaay over hit my approach shot to the back of the green. My putt was something like 80-90 feet. I drained that for a birdie. Another time, three days after Christmas my friend and I went to play and were told that only foursomes were being allowed out on the course and that we could wait for another pair to come and be joined with them. We waited about an hour and in walks former baseball player Joe Morgan and a friend of his. LOL, 18 holes with a hall of famer.
