I am really struggling to puttfrom the fringe. It seems when the ball gets to the green there is a sort of speed boost. You have to aim way short of the hole even on uphill putts. Anyone else seeing this or have tips?

The default intent (marker distance) is set as if the whole path was fringe because the game doesn't take into account that the much faster green begins after a few feet. Apart from that I'm not sure I can help though. Being on a mouse, I never putt with vibration on. It takes some time to get a feel. Good luck!

Anyone else seeing this or have tips? For the fringe I usually chip it, but if it is really close and the ball is barely on the fringe, then I pull the aiming mark back 3 squares. Works fairly well for me as a starting point and I adjust based on how far it is to the hole.

Yeah, it's bloody annoying. I usually only ever putt from the fringe if it's within a few inches of the green because of it, whereas in reality I'd go out to a foot or two depending on the how the fringe grass and ground itself is.

Gamer_Ability has a youtube video on this and he recommends pulling the marker back 4.5 squares on the green as a starting point with a couple "nudges" back or forward depending on uphill/downhill putt. It has worked miracles for me and I have sunk a good many off green putts with his tips.

Wow. Thanks for this. I will give it a watch. I almost wonder if this is a bug or something.

It’s definitely a marker issue. I play in a no marker society so learnt judging speeds purely on the 2” up or 6” down metric in the HUD so when putting from the fringe I just treat it as a normal putt and ignore the marker.
Probably not the advice you want but learning to putt without the marker will give you a better judge of pace in any situation, especially on fast downhill putts

It's not a bug, it's a feature. Well, mechanic. The game assumes you're putting through the fairway/fringe for the entirety of the putt. It reads the terrain where the ball lies as the only terrain the ball will cross. Thus, the speed of the "green" at that point is like 75 or something. But of course when it hits the green, it'll roll at 134 or 155 or whatever the actual green speed is. So yeah, pulling the marker back 3-4 squares will balance out the speed differential.

Or if you aren't familiar with the green speed numbers - it's giving you the power required to hit it to the marker as if your entire putt is on the slower fringe because that's where your ball is sitting. In reality, your ball ends up on a much faster surface very quickly and thus goes much further than the marker.

I am finding that this "issue" was part of the latest patch as the putts are now very slow from the fringe and i messed up several holes by using the "pull back 4.5ish" grid marks. Barely got onto the green or left very short each time.

Yup, they changed it so that it shows the green speed, but gives you a lie penalty. I putted from the fringe once in my last round without recognizing the change. The second time I putted, I had a 95-96% lie range and the speed was 155.
