And just been playing around a little with placing trees off the plot and think it's going to be useful. I've placed a few trees to see what it looks like and first image below shows the tops of some trees to well behind and to the left of the green. Second image shows them planted off the plot, I can get them much much further out than that but I don't need that right now. My plot is raised about 100 feet above the water as it's a course built on the sandy bluffs well above the ocean. I don't want an obvious steep drop off / cliff there, I want it to look like the course is set well back from the ocean. The problem with placing trees off the plot is you can't ever select them if they're further away than the range of the area select tool at its largest. So if you place it there you're stuck with it. So care needs to be taken. I won't put any more down, I'll build what's on the plot first, and when done I can add trees out there if required.

Well.i got a bit carried away and built a vinyard. It took 16% of my object metre! Not sure if I'll keep it, I think I've got enough objects to get me home but we shall see. Currently at 80%. Hoping to publish weekend after next, maybe.

Below is the tee shot on 15, a short par 4 across a ridge. I wasn't happy with this hole for a long time but spent some time today doing some remedial work and now I'm happy with how it looks and how it plays. Gives an idea of some of the rough sandy terrain that features in places.

Not far off now. I've got two and a half holes to polish up and a couple areas needing planting. Then just a once-over of the bunkers and a final sculpt of the greens, place a few pins, check tee-boxes and a few more run-throughs as a final check. That being said, I intended to do some of that last night but I ended up tinkering with a hole that I thought was "completed", and didn't get any of that done. Added a pond behind the 4th green which does improve the hole considerably I think (pictured below, with 5th hole heading off in the distance and the 7th green behind on the right). Possible publish this weekend, but that depends on how much time I have over the weekend. Maybe next weekend... Oh, and the vinyard had to go, for resource reasons Also, in my first post here I said I was going to try to cut back on the amount of planting. That went well out the window....

Well this one's just about finished. Going to run through it a few times and on each pinset with greens cranked up a bit and just take my time to see if there's anything out of place, but I don't expect to have to make many changes. Check legality of pins, check tee boxes, that sort of stuff. I'll definately publish this weekend. I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out. With regards to aesthetics - the way the trees render at a distance and the way the light reacts to tree leaves when looking into the sun annoys me a bit, but overall I think it looks nice. And I hope the course is fun to play: I never quite know with a course I'm designing because I know all the shots. I've gone for wide fairways and very few centreline hazards or tricked-up fairway shapes, I hope it's interesting and challenging through use of angles and change of elevation and slope etc. Greens are reasonably slow at 141, that feels like a nice speed to me in this version of the game, but they can be bumped up a bit too.
It's turned out to be par 71, 7,388 yards from the back tees and 7,037 yards from the forward tees (two tee sets). This reminds me - I've got to change those tee colours - probably blue and white I think. I've got a little 8 year old quality control manager who's helped me out a bit, and has been patient with me with the stupid golf game. She encouraged me to plant a lot of crape myrtles, and I'm glad she did because they look good. She also negotiated the rights to name the course. Here's the scorecard, a shot of the 9th green with the clubhouse behind, and a couple different angles of the plot.

I've just published this as "Evelyn" tgctours.proboards.com/thread/32627/evelynIt's been fun making this course, not sure what I'll do next. Maybe take a little break and start something up in the new year. Might get back to an RCR of The Grand in Queensland, which I started ages ago but then put it on the back-burner. I'll be playing the course a few times just after Christmas so I'll grab a bunch of photos.
