Thank you all for making such a wonderful community. I have published several courses, and I feel like I am getting the hang of it. One thing I am finding I enjoy doing is redsigning existing layouts. All thanks to Chad for creating the tool that allows us to port actual courses onto the game.
I redesigned Hickory Hills Golf Club in Grove City, Ohio. For those of you who are familiar with Ohio golf, this is a Jack Kidwell design. For those of you not familiar with Ohio golf, Jack Kidwell is an extremely prolific GCA and was Michael Hurdzan's mentor and business partner. In fact, the original course was completed in the late 1970's by Kidwell and Hurdzan. According to the original invoice hanging in the clubhouse, it cost $451,000 to complete construction (this does not include purchase of the land).
Both courses are on PGA2K21 (and Hickory Hills is on TGC2019). Hickory Hills is called Hickory Hills (OH) Lidar. I have played the course 100+ times and it ported pretty accurately to the game (again, thanks to CHAD much more than me). The redesign is simply called New Hickory.
My primary goals in the redesign were to move as little land as possible; make maximum use of the existing course; cut down the fewest number of trees possible; and create a set of "championship" tees. The current back set of tees is plenty difficult (par 71 with a rating of 73.5 and a slope of 139). I really enjoy the original design of this golf course as it forces longer players to move the ball both left to right and right to left in order to achieve their best scores. There are also some surprisingly dramatic elevation changes given the location in Central Ohio. I wanted to give the course a little bit more of a "modern" feel. I will follow up this post with some actual video and more commentary, but I welcome anybody who is familiar with Hickory Hills or wants to check these out to do so!
