I have inserted a bunker within a fairway using a brush shape. However I require a large rough area around it which I have created using the spline, set the surface to "rough" even "deep rough" yet in the game the surface surrounding the bunker appears as "fairway". Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Your advice would be very much appreciated.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Your advice would be very much appreciated. How I have done this in the past is as follows: 1) Spline a fairway, smooth the splines, but don't fill it in. 2) Spline your bunker in the fairway where you want it. 3) Add a Secondary Surface to the splined bunker, using either light rough or heavy rough - your choice. Set the width of this rough to whatever you want it to be. 4) Paint the fairway in around the bunker and rough using fairway brushes to fill in the fairway spine. Make sure you cover all spots, as you don't want a random strip of rough visible in the middle of the fairway.

Have to give some credit to the CrazyCanuck1985 tutorial video on this...check it out at the 18:00 mark of this video: He does it a little differently than I do, but he uses bunker shapes instead of splining them, like you were using on your course. So you can do it either way - splining or brushes.
