Hi all! Been playing Par 3 executive courses for my career so far and have homed in my short game to a decent standard. Last month I joined a syndicate membership where for £200 a year I get membership at 2 of the better courses in Norfolk in Dunston Hall and Weston Park.
I have since carried out a round at each managing 116 and 120 respectively... LOL.
However needless to say I have more than caught the bug over the last 4-5 years and plan to visit each course at least once a month for a round
Now. Clubs. I have a cheap old £100 set from sportsdirect.com which are designed for a beginner. They are designed to hit the ball far and not much else. As I am trying to improve and currently taking group lessons I am looking to upgrade my clubs. The budget is £500 tops and I know I won't get world class clubs or any form of fitting but just wondering what people think of golfbidder.Co.UK? It's second hand clubs which I can get a very good condition set of a big name brand such as Ping or Callaway.
My question is this... If I find a nice set of Callaway Irons I like the look of, is it IMPORTANT to get a driver, 3 wood, hybrid of the same brand for distancing reasons or is it OK to look at other good makes. I recognise that in my set the driver is going to be at least £150.
I have that money set aside for a golf set which I really want to get as my set is dreadful and was never looked after previously by my brother. I'm quite set on golfbidder but open to other options if within my budget. I know the big name brands do cheaper more budget sets for £300 or so but I'm.under the impression these will only achieve exactly what my cheap old set currently is, for a beginner to get the ball in the air which I'm.capable of doing.

The way I choose my clubs is this: What is the max amount I want to pay for this club(s)? What are my options? I personally now play a nike driver, a taylormade 3 wood, adams hybrid, taylormade irons, sh*tty wedges, and an odyssey putter. So all over the board brand-wise. When I buy clubs they are last year's model so they are definitely cheaper. To give you an idea I spent over $100 on my driver and (obviously) my irons. Hybrid was $70, Putter $80, 3 wood $80. I am a bargain shopper so I get stuff pretty cheap. It is ok to mix and match as long as you know how far you hit your longest iron vs your wood. If there is a large gap, feel free to grab a hybrid. The clubs will only add to your distance so the whatever the gaps are now they should stay the same just +3-5 yds all around the board. My personal experience, Im no scratch golfer though.

NCFCRulz, Rob, I have been playing a long time and have a 7 HC. Mizuno irons are great. I have old MX-23's that I have had for years and they still perform for me. An older 'good' set would problably be better than a new 'cheap' set. Good luck with it.
The thrill of breaking 100, then 90, then 80 is great times. By the way the greens don't have the red and yellow lines.

NCFCRulz , having a matched set of clubs throughout the bag is not important. Yes, for the irons it's the best course of action, but in your woods/fairways/hybrids, even wedges, it's not important. For some context, I play to a single digit handicap. I have a wide mix of different brands of clubs in my bag: Driver is Ping, 3 wood = taylormade, 3 hybrid = titleist, 4 hybrid = cobra irons (5i to gap wedge) = cobra 54 degree wedge = cleveland 58 degree wedge = titleist putter = Yes! So don't worry too much about getting a 'matched bag'. worry about finding the clubs that you hit the best, for you. and at the distances that you need to fill in gaps. At the 'top' end of the bag you are going to have wider distance gaps. Driver to 3 wood to hybrids, my gaps are 20 to 15 yards between each. Irons are approx 10 yards between irons/wedges

Buy an older set of "good clubs", and spend the rest of the money on lessons.

Thanks all for the comments going to have a good look tonight and try to put a nice set together for my money! My heart is pretty set now on a cobra set of irons from last year for £300 but going to have a good look around at the woods and putter to see what I can find In theory then should a 15 degree 3 wood designed by Ping go exactly the same as for example a 15 degree 3 wood by Taylormade? Do you consider it important to get clubs such as a 10.5 driver which has various loft Increments that can be set or at my standard is that not something to worry about?

I would make sure all clubs have the same swing weights and shafts. Swing weights such as d-2 and shafts that are flexible or stiff. Would not mismatch these.

Ping G25 driver Titleist 913 3 wood Adams A7 irons Titleist Pitching and Sand Wedge Hoxan Apex Gap wedge Nickent Omen putter
I like the driver ok, The 3 wood is like butter, the irons I have to change (I really want to go back to a pure blade), Wedges are killer, the putter is actually just right for me even thought it wasn't crazy expensive or anything. I find if I'm struggling I go grab my old Titleist bullseye and let the weight of the putter head straighten me out again.

Wish I had enough range time to put this in play: But am currently playing the below. Probably the best cavity backs ever made: Woods are Titleist.

Taylormade rocket ball adjustable driver I set it at 10 degrees. Exotic 4 wood. Adams 3 rescue. 21 degree I think Mizuno mx-23's (old but great clubs) Ping eye 2 sand wedge (20 yrs old) 58 degree wedge Current use Scotty Cameron putter ( have 7 or 8 putters ) I use Titliest NXT tours golf balls. Find one that suits your game. In the winter I use low compression balls such as Wilson Duos.

I need to get playing again. I was shooting in the high-90s, low-100s a year or so ago, but have barely played since July or so. I'll need to get some new clubs soon -- I like the idea of getting something a year or two old.

I play jpx825 irons and they were the best I tried on the day I purchased.
