Inspired by Pasatiempo, Escondite (“Hiding Place”) is my entry into this years World Cup of Design. The course isn’t difficult by any means and wasn’t really designed with that in mind as there are tons of feeder slopes and large fairways all across the course. *Warning* If you’re all about ground game, I gotta warn you in advance, there’s not tons of it to be found out here. A first for one of my courses, Escondite features a manipulated set of tees which hopefully will help to provide more variety and some cool angles on the par 3’s. Tees are as follows: Black - 7468 yards Blue - 7224 yards White - 7196 yards Scorecard: Gotta admit for the first time ever, I really struggled getting this one across the finish line and it’ll most likely get blown out of the water in my group so I hope those that will play it will at least enjoy their rounds. Important thing is I learned a bunch with this one and will definitely take that to future courses. Good luck to all the entrants in this year’s contest as all of the courses released so far have been absolutely awesome. Last but not least, enjoy some awesome pics from my Xbox. If anyone wants to throw in some better quality pics, please feel free. -10th tee -18th approach -16th overlooking the par 3 17th -13th greensite overlooking 10th green

Enjoyed my round here. Defintely nailed the McAlister in California look. Enjoyed the helper slopes a lot when I was playing, made it a real fun round. I will say on this course your dark and cloudy skies hurt you a bit. Especially with the helper slopes I would have liked to see them a bit more. That's really my only major critique though. Good job!

Really lovely course but those clouds just kill the mood. Wonderful clubhouse i.imgur.com/kuoQNMC.jpgThe off course stuff with all the houses was really well done. The course itself was very relaxing to play with the wide fairways. You said there wasn't much ground game but I found there to be sufficient elevation and side slopes to contend with to make choice of club interesting. The wastey bunkering was well done, a couple may have been over sculpted and a few quilt marks. The greens were interesting and plenty colourful which really stood out against the dark backgrounds. The sun popped out briefly on the 12th and everything came to life. Really enjoyed my round!

Buddy, there is zero chance of you getting blown out of the water in your group. Probably the course from the contest I've enjoyed the most so far - you design with real freedom and there's so many unique, natural holes here. Totally nailed the Pasa vibe as well and caught a few cool things you did with the planting. The space you gave to the holes is just perfect whilst still retaining that feel of closeness. That's just so hard to do well. Would echo comments about the lighting and I'll have another round with the lights turned up a bit this afternoon.
Keep pushing, you're getting better and better.

Great work here jcollick - bunkering was awesome and the Pasa vibes came through, felt like even out of position I could find a slope to get me back on track, which was great fun! P.s. Old Onion called, it wants its lighting back

Have to say this was the toughest bunkering I’ve done on a course yet and it definitely gave me some trouble. Some day I’ll get it down

Old Onion called, it wants its lighting back Funny thing is, the lighting settings on this course were actually different than Onion and was A LOT brighter on my screen when designing compared to onion. Some day I’ll get this lighting thing down😆 Glad you liked the course though!

I really liked the dark, brooding sky and thought it fit well. Was a very enjoyable 18 holes. Liked the views across other holes on some greensites & the waste area planting was very consistent and well done. Liked how you returned to ideas like the waste between shots on both holes 2 & 18 and split fairways with centre-lined bunkers. Some of the custom trees you built were a real delight and stood out. Think this one has plenty of replay value in different conditions. Almost felt like the offspring of a Petty-B101 course in its surfacing, slope & planting. Really good work and looking forward to future projects. Cheers from the bush.

Good job! Thanks for the play and feedback ducker. Tried changing the lighting up a bit on this one and switched it back right before publish. Just couldn’t get myself to like how the planting looked with the sun out. Gonna figure out how to balance it out eventually.

Hey... I read b101 post and thought I'd better give it a look... to be honest i should have anyway, as your DT course was one of my favourites... Anyway, this is impressive. I'm looking more from a designing than playing perspective, and as Ben rightly points out, there is a feel to your courses that is hard to teach. The whole flow of the course feels very natural and it doesn't feel designed (if that makes sense). The way you've used some blindness and the way you mix that up, sometimes tee-shots and sometimes approaches, really good. I also really enjoy how holes dont feel linear i.e. there's the tee, and a fairway and the green at the end. They often feel more of an adventure to get there, and you need to plot your way there. Also the bunkering is really expertly layered, creating lots of illusion and hiding fairways... yep... you can tell, i enjoyed it alot! Best of look in the contest, and I'll hopefully take some inspiration from this to up my game!

Yep this is gorgeous. The setting and environment was so good and I thought this was just such a fun round of golf. Loved some of the slightly blinder tee shots but the highlights for me were holes like 10 and 17.
Great stuff buddy.

Been banging the jcollick drum since before the DT snub, and this one is right up my alley. I'm pretty sure every non-par 3 had some kind of bunker #layering which is maybe one of the things I appreciate most when it's done well and something I always love doing on my courses, also a very MacKenzie thing to do. I'll do everyone a solid and just say Light Cloud weather, afternoon Time of Day for this one for it to really go into top gear, but the dark planting does contrast great in the default overcast too. Giving this one a well deserved bump.
