Nearly three decades after the opening of Coore and Crenshaw’s Sand Hills, the fine folks of Hooker County, NE who don’t count themselves among golf's “elite” -- all 500-600 of them -- were pining for a place to call their own. Sprawling behind the old Mullen Bingo Hall (which now doubles as a clubhouse!) was a beautiful tract of rolling hills covered in prairie grasses and bristly thatch. After gently peeling those layers back, a new gem of the public golf world was uncovered. Welcome to Mullen County Municipal. Main features: * Tight 1,000x1,000-yard plot * Compact butterfly routing with central congregation point, featuring five greens and five teeing areas. * 4 sets of tees between 6,598 and 6,994 yards utilizing tee manipulation to create varied angles and distances. * Big, bold bunkering. * Minimal land moved/sculpted. * Very firm/fast conditioning. Greens designed at 187, published at a default of 180. Yee-haw. Enjoy!

Wonderfully open environment giving it a great plains feel. The tightly routed plot i.imgur.com/K2OTL08.jpg looks really nice. A clubhouse for the occasion i.imgur.com/DZAeY6r.jpg the kind you'd find out yonder. There was a slight lag on some holes, I'd say it was the amount of grass. There were some tricky pins to get to with all of those run off areas catching me out frequently. Lovely relaxed environment and well done!

The lag was probably from the 10,000,000 trees I buried in order to get the dirt walking path texture. Thanks for the play!

Just gave this a run and enjoyed my round. My second most recent course was a similar style and I know from experience how much of a pain in the ass it is to plant and make it look good so well done on the environment. My only comment was on pinset 3 there were maybe 2-3 pins near the middle of the round that were borderline on default speeds in the middle of some dark orange/near red slopes that were tough to hold. Otherwise enjoyed my round here, good work and gl in the comp!

I know exactly the pins you’re talking about, and I thought about softening them, but then I had a long day at the office and said “ah, what the hell”. I glad you enjoyed it!

shouldnt this be called Hooker County Municipal? In spite of the conundrum, I enjoyed the round. Job well done, Brian.

Enjoyable course, especially enjoyed the front 9. Had some major lag issues but otherwise I consider this to be one of the better courses in the contest! Well done, definitely will be looking out for your future courses

very nice vibe, you captured the middle of nowhere feel. the sightline off 3 tee with bunkers creeping out in the distance was spectacular, among others. loved the choices on 10 tee shot, found myself weighing the drawbacks of each angle for a while. 17 stands out as a unique design and great use of a tricky slope - my tee shot rolled into the bunker before I even realized it was out there. the course has a nice rhythm - it gave up some birdies early on but right as I got rolling I couldn't buy a birdie look from 11-16. good stuff!

Loved the feeling of being surrounded in that environment. Loved the course and gave it a fave. I love courses with that look.
I did get rocked with 20mph wing round but it's also my motto that I go with whatever random wind I get.

Well done, definitely will be looking out for your future courses Yea I knew there probably would be a couple spots where the lag might come into play. I buried so man damned trees for those paths lol. I'm glad you enjoyed it, though. The feeling's mutual with Tor. Thanks for the play!

Very nice vibe, thought you captured the sand hills environment very well. Really enjoyed the front nine that I felt was a really good stretch of holes.
What was the file size in the end? I had some major lag on a few holes. See you in the group stage!
