Hello fellow designers, I'm in the process of creating an Autumn themed, Vermont-based golf course and I'm looking for advice on how I should fill the dead space in the areas shown in the images below. Rocks? Bushes? Grass? Swamp? Any advice, examples, or ideas would be much appreciated!! PS - Please don't mind the cart paths. I haven't smoothed or straightened them out yet. Space between the tee box and green on a par 3:Space between tee box and fairway:This hill provides a nice view from the 16th hole above. How should I fill in the spaces on the hill above and below the cart path? Again, the space between the tee box and green on a par 3:
Here's my quick, rough attempt (just to get an idea) at filling some space on a par 3. Thoughts? Does it seem forced? Thanks! Derek

Hi Derek, yes, yes and yes. LOL Seriously, all of the above and vary it a little so you don't get repetitive, but stay consistent to your overall look. Also, a good is idea is to bury some trees and scar the ground to break it up and give a realistic look to the ground, it comes out pretty good on Autumn theme. I used it on Taconic State Park - Red, it worked well. Example attached.

I honestly don't think you need to put anything in all of those locations, some designers (newer ones) tend to overuse things and end up cluttering up a hole. Do yourself a favor, get on Google Maps Satellite view or Google Earth Pro and look at some real courses (well maintained ones, not municipal tracts) and see what you find in those areas. 86 that fenced in grass area.
gforce41's recommendation of sinking a tree to get a distressed look is a good idea if that is what you are looking for.

Looks beautiful!

Got it. I'll try to keep the "less is more" concept in mind. Thanks for the advice. Satellite views are a good suggestion as a resource. I'll start bouncing around some VT courses. Adios fenced-in grassy area. Thanks!
