So unfortunately I didn't join the forums until a week after the rookie due date (bummer.....), but I'm working on my sequel course to Southlake VIllage....Northlake VIllage (I know it's very original).
I want Northlake VIllage to be a more hilly, american links style course like whistling straits, chambers bay, and Erin Hills.
Those courses have a few holes that are littered with fairway bunkers.
So I want the consensus since you are the guys that are going to judge it and play it.
Do you think I should try to convert the fairway bunkers into cross bunkers? I like the look of a cross bunker over a fairway bunker, but stretching the rough out too far may make it more tedious off the tee since you would have to lay back or carry them in the air.

Personally I think fairway bunkers are fine. I think the biggest issue would arise when it’s in the same spot on every hole at 295 and used exclusively to limit driver or in the same way over and over again. Think it works best if you mix it up so some at 315 some at 260 just depending on hole strategy and mix and match as opposed to just putting it in one spot to limit driver. Personally I find diagonal harzards work the best in creating strategy allowing you to chew off as much as you want. Ultimately design whatever you want and don’t worry about what other people think. Feedback you get on technical stuff can help and same for planting and strategy but a bunch of it imo comes down to personal preference. Let me know when you publish and I’ll gladly give it a play! Feel free to publish a beta too if it’s not a part of any official contest.
