I missed the cut this week in beer league because the course had been made longer than the course I practiced in Play Now. The course was longer than the default back tees. I found myself taking 3rd shots into par 5's that did not exist practicing in Play Now etc. This throws off my entire round because I memorize what clubs to use.

You can look at the weather report and see what tees are being used.

It’s possible you played the wrong course when practicing in Play Now. Sometimes there are multiple versions of a course. Say the course name is Lakewood (T). There could also be a Lakewood without the (T). Or maybe a Lakewood (L). That would account for the different distances. But even if you did play the wrong course, I don’t understand the memorizing which clubs to use method. I pick the club based on the required distance. When I say required distance, I am taking into account the yardage to the hole, the wind, the fairway and green hardness, elevation change and anything else that may impact my shot. |
