Pat McIlroy... Rory Louvar... whoever the hell you are. WOWEE... What a pure design! Every shot a feast for the eyes. Loved everything about this coastal dunes course. 1. Colour palette and lighting were on point. 2. Planting was perfectly befitting a course of this nature. 3. Cliff design was spectacular. 4. The sweep of the plot to the ocean and then the abrupt drop created great drama. 5. The fairways were generous but required thought due to the humps and bumps and camber. 6. Greens were perfectly sized for each hole length as to place a premium on all approach shots, long and short. 7. The routing was bliss. Loved the coastal holes esp. the back-to-back 3s and then 16 (??) with it's green positioned precariously close to the edge of the cliff. All that's required there is a little cut to hold the ball into the onshore breeze. Easier said then done! 8. Overall environment felt very natural and not overworked. The modern yet understated clubhouse sat well at the top of the course. Reminded me of a couple of courses on the Mornington Peninsula near where I live. The small houses further up the slope were also a nice touch. I played TST settings and had a thrilling +2 from the tips. One of the very best courses I've played in a long long time. An easy 5-star fav which I could play every day in different conditions and with a different setup. This would do very well in any contest. Good luck in the Rookie competition but I'm not sure you'll need it! Cheers P.S You know you've made it when Jim Gem showcases your course.

Bruh…absolutely insane course. The dunes work, the planting, the lighting…all flows. And the golf ain’t too shabby either. Really well done, Pat.

Well done! #10 & #18 were my favorites. #10 is a crazy good reachable par 4 design - hit driver with plans of writing a 2 or 3 on the scorecard . . . .but had to make a 7 footer for bogey!- but enjoyed every shot. Also, thanks for not having the speeds at 187 - I 3 jacked a green from 12 feet as it is.. . . .
Good luck in the contest, Bob

Serious talent man. So many great looks on the course. Really loved how the course felt embedded in the landscape. A very barmbougle feel to it. If this is your first entry, look out!
My only bit of constructive criticism would be when you’ve got the skills to create amazing environments like you do you can ease off the pedal on a few holes. Just give a few moments where there is a relief in visual intensity. I always like how pacific dunes does this on a few of the par 5’s on the back nine (12 and 15) The holes are spare and give a bit of a pallet cleanse between visually dramatic holes. It helps create a diversity and richness in the layout. This is a very high level comment on an otherwise great course. I wouldn’t typically make this comment but since you have some serious skill I’d figure why not give you something to chew on! I’m really looking forward to what you put out next.

Hey Pat, You're a rookie no more man! Excellent work on the this course. The plantings and ground work were so believably realistic. Enjoyable hole routings and greens too. Normally buy a Powerade after the 9th and got a bit thirsty by the time I finished the 10th which is closer to the Clubhouse cafe, but a minor inconvenience for such an enjoyable course experience. A Fav and 5 from me Pat. Hope you do well in the Rookie Design contest.

Ahhhh, rookie? pfff, this is a top shelf course with 5 stars all the way. The plot looks awesome i.imgur.com/SyxgDw7.jpg and I love the fact you have put the driveway all the way to the edge of the plot i.imgur.com/ac0Kd6n.jpgReally cool clubhouse i.imgur.com/pPvcgCk.jpg with the "wings" holding the suspended roof is a great look. My only gripe with the whole experience was the transition shot on the first tee i.imgur.com/fKk4lTG.jpg. I would have loved to tee off in the sun and some of that sandy waste bunkering and planting behind me. But on to the golf. What an opening tee shot. The greens felt faster than 151 and the wind felt stronger than the light to medium breeze I had. You really have to be on your game with your approach shots. You do not want to be going over the back of 3! Love the 5th where you can't get there in two but you still need to think what to do with your second to give yourself a decent approach. I mishit a crap driver to the perfect length (just like real life). The centre hazards are well placed and the elevation and slopes on the fairways make every shot something you need to consider. A thinking man's course, of which is not me. Boy that 8th green is tricky! Nearly picked the gap on 10. Found the chute on 12 - straight into the heavy rough. Just caught the wrong side of the bank on 13 and again on 14 and suffered a skewering i.imgur.com/rG8fCbr.jpgWonderful throat approach on the 15th. Held my breath when I hit a slow on 16. Then from 12 yards away hit a LW flop at 79% for a tap in par. Tried to hit a big high hook into 17 and overcooked it. Missing the putt with a bit of lag. Great finishing hole up the hill to the clubhouse. Fantastic costal course with 13th Beach vibes (the Aussie's will know this one). Will go way deep in the comp. I'm going back to play in high winds and 187's.

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone! I really appreciate it. There are some stellar courses coming out in rookie so far so it should be a tight contest! sandgroper appreciate the detailed feedback as always! I agree that the first tee shot could have used some lighting but by the time it came to set the lighting it was too late. I had to sacrifice the first tee box to the lighting gods for the rest of the course! Haha.
