We are published! Welcome to Blackmoor Downs - my second course in a TGC contest and my entry to this years Rookie Design Contest. This course is inspired by a golf trip I took a few years ago with my late father in the North of England, and draws on the 3 courses we played while we were there - one with a valley, one in a pine forest, and one in dense heathland with heavy heather/ferns (he ran out of golf balls..). This one is indeed for him, who got me into golf at the age of 8 and took me all round the country to play in various tournaments in my junior days. It is designed to be a strategic test, with camber a defence of the course and angles into greens all important as you make your way round. The fairways are reasonably wide, and holes are designed to give multiple options to the player - with some inspiration from my DL2.5 entry and William Flynn - with a tight routing, using the natural land, and a short template hole he loved which favours the shorter, more accurate hitter (no spoilers!). The routing gives big views over the course and both 9's intertwine with each other, and a creek runs through the length of the course and comes into play towards the end of the back 9 and features on the back 9. I'd also like to thank those who have given me feedback on this course - jcollick and Firethorn15 for reviewing my WIP, b101 for reviewing a 4 hole beta on your Twitch stream and for the excellent videos you provide - these have been invaluable in my growth as a designer. Anyway - get out there and take plenty of golf balls - the bracken can be quite thick

Loved playing this course. The routing here was awesome with all the shared fairways and close proximity. Great strategy too, believe i noticed a few templates in there intentional or not. The environment too was something totally unique I haven’t seen in this game and I think you pulled it off really well. Great job.

@mctrees02 huge fan of FF and piano covers, thought I'd have both! blindwolfgolf thank you for your comments, indeed there are a few templates but usually a slight spin on that particular template - tried to keep it more natural and in keeping with the land rather than forcing strategy on any holes. The look I drafted a few times, the Ferns are so underrated in that they are meter friendly and don't cause any lag, but give that bracken feel.

Really lovely track. Lots of elevation and undulations to contend with. I left quite a few out there and on 9 had a 1% putt to drop it in. The use of palms everywhere looks great, not sure about in the bunkers when you are up close to them. Good lighting to give an overcast dreary afternoon look.

I just played this course and was very impressed. The course feels like a pleasant walk around a field with 18 interesting greens. There were so many interesting approach shots, and best of all, the options felt like legitimate decisions rather than riddles to be solved. I’m looking forward to your future publishes.

Thanks tpcsouthnine - appreciate the comments! The concept was exactly that, make the player think about the approach shot and positioning off tee to negotiate particular slopes/tiers - it is a very scoreable course if you hit the right spots but can bite if you don't! Looking forward to giving Little Pigeon a go, love the look and it's on the list to play this week

Really enjoyed the course! The planting style is definitely something unique. And I don't even want to think about how long it took to lay down all those bushes and plants. You did a good job creating sightlines over the whole course without it feeling like there was lots of empty space. Good work and good luck in the contest

kennyd2411 - appreciate the comments - the planting did take ages and was redrafted a few times to get that heathland look - safe to say my next course will be less planted as I haven't got the energy to do that again! Planning to give your course a run this week - looks good! jcollick - thankyou for your feedback on my WIP as well - you'll notice that someone came in with a digger and ripped out most of the trees - it was a conscious decision to give it that more open feel and sightlines - also thought then it might be more graphics card friendly for anyone playing! How are you getting on with your course?
