Somerside Halt GC
Here's my rookie contest entry - Welcome to Somerside Halt Golf Club The railways finally came to Somerside in the late 1880s,but it wasn’t until 1910 that golf became the primary reason for stopping off here. Initially the station was unmanned (hence the name ‘Halt’), but fairly soon the town and station had grown into what you see today. The fine Victorian viaduct meant that rather than bypassing Somerside, the railway became a feature of the townscape. The initial 9-hole course on the north bank of the river was extended recently to this 18 hole layout. The course now straddles the river, which you will visit several times over the round. Playing from just outside the station the courses innovative routing means you enter and exit a central hub several times as you play… the 1st, 7th, 11th and 17th holes all play into the hub, with teeing grounds for 2, 12 and 18 all leaving the hub. A series of loops connect the remainder of the holes to this central point. The course itself is full of interest, with a wide range of holes to test your accuracy and judgement. Rolling hills peppered with oak trees is your canvas, and at 7600 yards from the back tees, you’ll need to make sure you’re driving well out there. Keep an eye out as you finish up on the 18th, there may just be a train arriving at the station. Enjoy your day at Somerside!

town looked quite lovely, nearly albatrossed hole 14 but it lipped out on me. Surprised you marked this one as easy because I found it quite challenging!
Minor gripes are more down to personal preference, planting may have felt a bit overly clumpy in places, and maybe a bit too bright on lighting as the whole courses colors felt a bit oversaturated for my taste. golf itself was good, thought your strength here was your par 5s which played with some great variation

Good stuff, rich. Really liked the trek around the course. And the -11 score I posted didn’t hurt. Thought the views back into the town and train station were well done and enjoyed seeing it at various times throughout the round. Course played really well and will be a good test on tour. There’s a few pins I noticed that could be really dicey depending on speeds but…that’s what rangering is for!

Really enjoyed my round Rich. You can see more improvements on each course you do. Really liked the environment you created especially. Very well done.

Gday mate, that is a really nice course and a great entry in to the contest. I had a lot of fun playing this one and really liked the look of it. I should of guessed it was designed by a Barbarian by the flag colours. Good luck in the contest dude and keep up the great work.

Gave this a play last night. Course is really good. You've nailed the sightlines on every hole. I especially liked the drive on the 7th with the cityscape in the background. You can tell you put a lot of work into this. Good luck in the competition!

Real pleasant round here. The town, train and large patio off the club house and 18th green were all just class. The course itself plays great and is very realistic feeling. Great job as always Rich and good luck in the comp unless you’re judged up against mine which then bad luck and boo this course
