Capers Bay is now officially open for play. This is my 3rd publish, and my official entry into the Rookie Design Contest for 2021. This is a fictional highland's style layout located on the rugged northern tip of Cape Breton Island, in Nova Scotia. Capers Bay is a par 71, with four tees (yards ranging from 6010 to 6948 from the back gold tees) with five par 3's, nine par 4's, and four par 5's to challenge all golf level abilities. Don't be deceived by the Bay's shorter length as elevation changes on many holes is the biggest challenge for the golfer before you make your club selection. Bring your ground game strategy as the course offers options if you visualize it. Play for par on the 3's which leaves ample opportunities for birdies and eagles on the 4's and 5's to score low. When you are done, treat yourself at the Capers Highland Resort connected to the clubhouse. This main facility offers accommodations, a fully licensed restaurant/lounge, pool, and golf shops on the lower level for a full golfing package or rent one of the island's chalets for some boating, world class fishing or simple relaxation. Enjoy your stay at Capers Bay. I look forward to all feedback and critiques as a new designer.

Really enjoyed the course. Love the Cape Breton vibe. I live in eastern PEI, so literally right across the Strait from western CB. Good luck in the contest...but not too much luck ! Loved the road to the clubhouse on 18. Cheers, Peter

Troy,
Another solid design by you! Fun to play, strategic, and visually appealing. Wish I had the flyover option on Xbox to take it all in. Green contours were well done- protecting pins but balanced with mild breaks when you got it close. Some great framing and views of the course from the tees.

Really nice course you have there.
If I am being really picky there are a few questionable planting issues. One that stuck out was a tree in the air when looking off the 1st tee.(right handside)
Please don't take that as I didn't like the course. Overall very nicely made and had a very enjoyable round.

Really great looking environment, rugged and natural cape i.imgur.com/ovD0LnP.jpgLove the attention to detail with the entrance gate i.imgur.com/omc2swZ.jpgAwesome clubhouse i.imgur.com/icBWZR7.jpg and out the back the tennis and helipad i.imgur.com/0uZ5rhs.jpgMandatory lighthouse for the cape i.imgur.com/BI9HKz3.jpgLove the lake house with dock i.imgur.com/qjLaMgF.jpgVery funky double bridge i.imgur.com/69rXmMn.jpgGood maintenance shed i.imgur.com/W4iuXxM.jpg away from the clubhouse but I like the fact that it comes into sight during the round. Great transition shot off the first i.imgur.com/cOiQBQx.jpgPines don't like to be planted on the side of hills i.imgur.com/mNhr9TW.jpg. There is two things you can do, sink it in further, or shroud it like you have done with this one i.imgur.com/vKdQPDN.jpgBunkers. You will see me scan around looking at the bunkers and you have used a lot of stock shapes. The one on 3 caught my eye because it looks like it was placed there after the land was sculpted. i.imgur.com/JYEKFJp.jpgOnce it's in place, see the red circle, bring the right side of the bunker up to match the blue line. This will make the bunker look more natural and also increase it's visibility. The one on the other side of the green looks similar, where there is a convex bump in it, rather than concave. There were quite a few others that needed a small fuzzy brush around the lips to smooth them out (like the one I landed in on 9). Something to keep in mind. The only other thing I picked out was the fencing. I really like that rustic fence object (and used literally miles of it on Lake Chapeau up and down and it took me weeks). Make sure you finish with posts at each end. An example is the post missing on the 7th tee and fence around the 17th tee box. I had a really enjoyable round but still got into enough trouble. Missing the fairway on 4 was the worst of my trouble, boy that left me scratching my head as to what to do and took bogey. Made up for it on 7 with the drivable par 4. The back 9 seemed more challenging with the extra change in elevation. My 3 putt on 11 was disappointing, but if you leave yourself 81 foot putts it's to be expected. Good recovery on 12. The nearly drivable 14th was a great risk/reward. I decided to putt from off the green on 15 and got really unlucky. Thought I was going to get lucky on 16 and left it 2 foot short. Then a lip out on 17. Good strong finishing hole and really enjoyed my round.

Hey Avakrac,
Thanks for the play through.Solid round of golf.On the fourth hole, you could have layed up further up on the fairway for your 2nd shot if you had wanted to instead of going for it in two. The name retteach was correct(stands for retired teacher).Again I really appreciate the play and input you provided. I am always looking for critiques as a new designer.

Finally got a chance to give this a play and it’s an enjoyable course. The plot itself is a fun one and really creates form good moments of drama in the rounds. Enjoyable and big improvement by you!
