And we begin...! Spent a couple of weeks playing around with concepts, looks, plots and hole designs - before finally leaping in and laying some holes + a first draft at some planting. Plan is to lay full 18 with initial sculpting and a first draft at planting - before focusing on 3 holes at a time and likely release Beta's 3 holes at a time to get feedback as it begins to take shape! The course will likely be: - Dense pine forest - River through low point allowing for some good elevation changes - Plenty of long grass, bushes - Dry, firm conditions with quick greens - plenty of mounding and slopes Couple of screenshots below at first ideas Blind tee shot Grass faced bunkers and routing allowing for course views at regular points

Looks great so far, but I would be very wary of the planting meter with all of that. I would watch out to make sure that you aren't going to run out by the time you get to 18.

Absolutely and great advice, at the moment trying to settle on the look so plan is: - utilise as many "low impact" grasses and plants as possible - layer the planting rather than spamming, same look less planting as we go through replanting plot Next few weeks will be heavy on hole design, strategy and sculpting- before replanting- may dial it back a little!

Indecision crept in and new planting/texture scheme being looked at - as well as a major rerouting! Also that hill on the right will be less offensive once planted

Finally found some time to make some more progress with this! Front 9 laid down and in full sculpting mode, rerouted 8 of the holes to keep really tight and keep that dense, pine forest feel that I am going for. Some Flynn influences from my design league 2.5 entry that I really enjoyed - cambering fairways and strategy based around camber, favouring shorter accurate drives on some holes for angles, and holes built along surrounding hills and all flow towards central river creating that natural feel Lighting TBC - but this is a Cape style par 5 (serious work needed past the fairway bunkers) - want to avoid crutching on the river but plan for it to come in play on 4 holes max

My favourite hole to design - the short par 3 - usually follow template and go for big green with thumbprint but this time I am opting for a green shape that allows 4 pins with each having a bunker or water hazard to deal with View up the 15th which is a work in progress - a spin on a lions mouth with the front bunker situated at the side, a wide fairway means choosing angle is paramount to a good score - lots of shaping to do!

Hole looks great! I actually just got throwing a short 3 down on mine and agree they’re so much fun to build. So fun to make a par 3 stand out as stunner.

Some more progress - spent an evening laying out the driveable Par 4 13th hole which sits on the side of a hill - managed both a 1 and a 8 during play testing A few splines to clean up (most tedious task ever - I am sure it has become harder since putting them closer together?!) - but this part of the back 9 follows 2 tough holes, then onto this driveable 4 followed by a flip wedge par 3 (green in the distance)
