Just been watching a Rick Shiels video where he was playing at the JCB Golf & Country Club, Uttoxeter England. The course looks stunning and it's only 3 years old. Signature hole is the 255y island green par 3 17th. Any lidar creators fancy doing this as their nxt project?

Last time i looked there was no new lidar data for it, only been built the last couple of years, just a field there where it was built on the lidar data, might have changed not looked for a while.
i was curious about that green when i saw it about 6 months ago.

That thing looks like a beast. Our first hole is 240 yard par 3 but at least the water is only on the left.

That might just be the worst golf hole I've ever seen. Pure gimmick.

That might just be the worst golf hole I've ever seen. Pure gimmick. I agree that it's bad. I hate most island greens as I feel like they are just way too gimmicky. The fact that it's 255 yards from the back tee as well makes it infinitely worse.

At least the green contours look fun, but they should have built it literally anywhere else.

I live next to this course, haven't yet been able to play - membership is corporate only and starts at around 25k GBP for the entry package. They don't offer tee times either to the public, you have to know a member to qualify to play and from what I know, they have limited members to 100 companies only.
The English Football Association have a membership so quite often the players are playing here.

At least it's appropriately named for all the diggers required to create this natural, minimalist gem.

There's also absolutely no way to reroute the final two holes to improve them and remove the gimmicky nature. That island green hurts me personally lol.

I do think “gimmick” gets thrown around a bit too liberally here to some aspects. For instance saying island par 3’s are all “just way too gimmicky” is a pretty silly and to linear way of limiting yourself as a designer.
That being said this is gimmicky af and does not look fun at all to play both digitally or IRL.

There’s a 17B that’s inland I believe from the routing diagram. This is gimmicky not by the routing but the design of the hole itself and the sculpting of it. An island green would be fine here just not 255 long and a unnatural pushed up wedge that the green is draped on like this. There’s better ways to show off your chops as an excavation company (that’s what JCB is and what they are trying to market with this course) then this. For the most part the routing is not bad. The biggest thing that annoys me is the walk behind the driving range from 13 to 14 but I assume it’s long enough it would be incredibly rare for someone to be able to roll the ball that far not to mention fly. But like is the walk nice? If not then that’s bad routing.
