Hello, Currently recreating a course called Dakota Dunes located in Saskatchewan. I previously made this quickly on TGC2019 after everyone had moved onto PGA2K21. With the many new grass/plant/texture options in PGA, I find myself redoing the whole course. As well, I previously finished it before on TGC2019 in the Winter when it had been about 5 months since last playing. With this summer and past ones, I have now played the course about 60 times over 4 playing seasons. Some quick design notes: - Made the hole layouts from OSM using Chad's Tool. No Lidar is available for this region of Saskatchewan as I reached out to the government to ask.
- Sculpting was done by hand. References include their Youtube flyover videos, internet images, Insta images, as well as my own vast collection of photos from my phone. Used Google Earth elevation profiles to get heights throughout the holes
- I tried reaching out to the course architect for any plans but they did not respond back
- I tried asking the course for pin locations but they did not respond back either
As my favourite time to play the course is fall, I went with a dried-out prairie grass look. In the Summer, the rough might be a bit more uniform of a green. As well, I mostly play this course at twilight so it will be my default time-of-day. I love this course at twilight IRL. Here's some pics of it, in progress. Sorry for my low-res pictures, I dont know how to make them look as good as others on here. I also included some reference photos Im using for the look of planting that I want.

Cool, this is the course I play the most IRL. I'll give it a spin later tonight!

Haven't uploaded a version for awhile that would be close to the finished product, especially not since I completed sculpting and grass planting.
I do my designing on PC and than test on PS4 for lag, as I play my rounds on PS4.
Cant wait to run it by you matt at some point for any possible pointers. I dont care if its approved or not as it's mostly for my enjoyment and hobby haha.
PS....your courses are amazing Matty

Well went to my first serious publish for playtesting on my PS4(as most of my playing is on PS4) and the publishing is failing.
I've never had a course publish fail before so I wonder if I'm overboard on the numbers?
Object at 94.9. Memory at 98.4. File size at 80.
I know my first two numbers are but amfigured if my file size was in the 80s that it would be fine.
If not I could definitely cut down on the amount of different tree/bushes used. The memory is at 98 but maybe it's actually too high st that amount anyway?

Interesting....so I got my memory meter down to 95 and it published. (Car deleted, golf carts, a shelter wall, and driving range divders)
The thing is, I liked some of the items so might play around with a few less tree and bush types to get the shelter, golf carts, and cars back.
So maybe 95% was true threshold?

Finally got more time over the holidays to test what I thought was close to my final version (posted as North Dakota Dunes)
Spent so much time on the black tees since I figured most would play it that I kind of overlooked the other shorter tees. Have been going back now and fixing some of the framing and teeboxes for those shorter ones.
Maybe another few hours of work before I can post it finally!☺️
I feel dumb as I clearly am not quick at this sort of thing haha...

Last post before posting it on my birthday on Friday/Saturday haha....
One last thing I'm considering is a par change. I know it's a RCR but I have seen other RCRs play around with yardage and pars too.
In real life, the 2nd hole is maybe my best-scoring hole as well. It's a pretty short par 5 with no real layup decision when playing under gaming conditions, as the fairway is hard to miss.
Now I always do Tour versions for fun anyway with my courses as I like to play around with stadiums and stuff. This course also hosted the Mackenzie Tour and I know not every Black-tee was used back then. In my Tour version, I'm definitely making it a par4. (I dont have a full list of which black tees weren't used but I know of a few)
So actually after typing this, I think I'll just stick with the actual par on the scorecard, and adjust it for my fictional, for-run Tour version.
Otherwise, I'm done. I'm happy with the result and while I know it's not perfect, I know I made my best effort and will look back on the journey fondly haha.

Rather than messing around with par on an RCR, I'd keep as many tees as true to life as possible and then add a Fantasy tee set (See the NGLA Lidar) that's longer. Be sure to add it in the course description when you submit the course to avoid confusion.

Ended up finding an old leaderboards of the 2016 Mackenzie Tour at the course and par did remain at 72 for them. I just think for videogame golf, I enjoy it as a par4 and will be changing it when I make my clearly defined "Tour" version. Also putting in a round on NGLA. Been a few months since checking it out but I read the thread and really enjoyed the thought process that was posted.

I know the hole you're taking about and in game it would definitely not play as a par 5 haha! For that particular hole changing it to a 4 wouldn't be a bad idea.

cutchemist42, I like the look of this esp. first screen shot but I feel the lighting is a little low. A lot of shadowing across greens esp. in the last photo.

Yeah I still haven't decided final lighting but like my real picture up above, the shadows across the greens is slightly real as some holes dip below the horizon behind bushes. I do want to keep it to a minimum tho while being slightly realistic for sun position. Thanks again!!
