The atmosphere and environment are terrific, it feels like you’re in a Bay Area micro climate with the city just over the hill, very well done! The routing is spectacular and as b101 pointed out, I really liked the diversity of green complexes. Big thumbs up!

100% not a collab - that massively overstates my role in this! As ever, love the boldness and sense of scale I always get from your courses, Rob. I liked the way this one opened relatively gently before that rollercoaster of a third hole - which is a great example of a near 90 degree dogleg that really works. A great job with the routing to get in and out of that coastal area so seamlessly and still have some of the absolute best holes in that section (11-14 is such a good stretch). 15 drive and 16 approach were probably my favourite shots on the course and 18 was also a really good, fitting finisher. It was great to watch this come together over a few updates and the planting work you did really topped it all off. Great stuff as ever. Edit: Forgot probably my favourite thing with the way you varied the green footprints. Not enough people (myself included) do this and it's such a good way to add variety. Hey Ben. Not sure how this isn’t a collab. Maybe you are Mother Nature and I’m the golf architect on this one. Either way the plot is made with golf in mind and was really inspiring to work on. I really enjoyed the process. Glad you liked 16 approach, it was the last thing I did on the course after several iterations. One of those holes that I reconfigured multiple times. About the greens, yes i like playing around with green size. I’ve always liked how the old guys designed features that were jarring and unexpected and weren’t as concerned with uniformity. I always try and incorporate features that push the boundaries of expectation. Features that make people feel a bit uncomfortable.

This is a fantastic course. Beautiful to look at and play. Wonderful attention to detail. Except for the tee boxes - dude, they were more undulating than the greens, lol. Other than that, this is a first rate effort. Great work! Oops. Thanks for letting me know. It’s something I always forget to check before I publish.

Alright these are easily the best looking representations of Monterey Cypress I've seen yet. Course and environment are sublime as usual and really give off a lovely vibe. This is probably one of, if not the best California style golf courses Ive ever seen and I will keep coming back to playing this one As a person who has to look for course exploits regularly (because any and all plat players will find and use them) I have to say the tee on hole 3 does not guard well enough against people playing the hole straight away instead of as a large 90 degree dogleg, I was able to land it just off a neighboring green without much effort (even with an imperfect swing) leaving me a pitching wedge out on the second shot, effectively negating the hole of it's normal play. Not a big deal, but I thought you would appreciate that feedback. Let's just say there is a sign up on the course that says "Dont Do That" on this hole Thanks yeah. I was aware of this path as you can tell by the tree location. The tree is more of a deterrent rather than a complete blockage in order to communicate to the player that this route is not really the way to play the hole. That being said if players are playing in tournaments and this is gaining players and extra stroke I guess the etiquette doesn’t really matter. I might produce a tour version if requested for tour play and I’ll be sure to address this and a few other little things I’ve noticed since publish…

This is probably one of, if not the, the best California style golf courses Ive ever seen and I will keep coming back to playing this one Played last night and agree with these comments. And obviously being a Mackenzie inspired course it reminded me very much of some of the sandbelt courses I live amongst - perhaps not so much the change in elevation but certainly in terms of the overall environment and specifically the vegetation and bunkering. The moody lighting and slightly subdued colour palette were fabulous. I also liked this comment from b101... Forgot probably my favourite thing with the way you varied the green footprints. Not enough people (myself included) do this and it's such a good way to add variety. When I read this it immediately reminded me of another favourite course of mine, The OG Club. The use of small and large green complexes added great interest to the course's playability. Much appreciated coming from an Aussie. I can never escape the influence of the Sandbelt!

Wow, what a wonderful environment. The lighting is very moody and fits with an oceanside theme of a course I feel would be near Solana Beach. The changes in elevation and severe slopes on the fairways makes you choose from a couple of options of laying up or hitting from a compromised position. Some of my approach shots missed the mark because I didn't heed the warnings! Love the planting and barren look off the fairway. The housing surrounding the course is a nice touch, with a lot of fencing etc. Late in the round I had some lag which threw in a few red slows, as if the round wasn't hard enough. Thanks man. Glad you appreciated and enjoyed all of the design features of the course.

Thanks for the feature. Always like hearing your thoughts in a course as you play as you seem to be very tuned-in to the strategic elements of a course. Appreciate it.

Mackenzie definitely shines all around this place. Finally got to play the game again for the first time in a couple of weeks last night and knew I had to fire up this course and it did not disappoint. Always impressed with how it seems that you "leave" the plot alone and build around it. Things like the stand alone cypress tree on the back 9 by the par 3 green and the next tee were subtle ways that made it feel like this course really was just found. That is something I took away that I know I need to incorporate more in my own designs. Something else I took away from it was the places you allowed people to leave themselves on short or medium 4s. Blasting away drive definitely wasn't the answer, but I tried it over and over anyway and paid for it a couple of times. The 3s were all very challenging too, especially the ones that were 220-250. Was very pleased with my bogey free round, looking forward to seeing how the elite tour guys handle it.

I think it comes down to giving the natural features of the site have more visual dominance over the manicured elements. Really give the impression the course is navigating around these elements and make those elements rough and bold so it almost looks like you had to go around them with the routing. That being said I think you can go overboard with naturalized areas so they end up just surrounding every hole and lose their impact. I like the feel of isolating the really dramatic elements almost as islands so they really stand out.

Terrific job here gents. Challenging round with lots of interesting shot-making opportunities. I thought you used the land wonderfully to help influence the strategy of the holes. I also loved the custom cypress trees found throughout the course. Keep ‘em coming 👍🏻!

Just assuming you had the same issue I’m having and gotta say you’re a mad man for going back in a redoing all the cypress trees on this one. That being said, so glad you brought this one over to 23. I’m sure it plays even better in this game than it did in the last.

I’m sure it plays even better in this game than it did in the last. Ah. Well I didn’t bother Haha. Just ported. They look pretty goofy from some angles but there’s no way I was going to redo everything especially after I realized the new trees just don’t fill space the way old ones used to. I kind of wish they had a tree foliage object that doesn’t have the trunks sticking out. As far as how it plays generally it’s good but there are some greens that were on the edge in 2k21. Might be worth lowering the speeds slightly otherwise there’s some pins that if you get above them you are putting off the green.
