Hi all, hoping this is a good place to plant this threat, I am having trouble finding another place and search hasn’t yielded much…
I’ve been designing courses on my XBSS now for a year and while it’s been a huge improvement performance wise over my older XB1, it’s still pretty painful. The lag in placing objects and general sluggishness makes it pretty painful to complete courses. I am starting to consider a dedicated gamer pic to design on, but am not an expert with PC hardware specs. Looking for anyone to offer some advice on what to look for, in either a custom build or off the shelf. I believe the thing to focus on is graphics cards, so maybe any specifics on the good/better/best options currently available and any thoughts on main CPU requirements to get fastest performance for the designer.
Thanks!

I had the same problem with the XB so bought a PC, I have the Skytech Archangel Gaming PC with the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6GHZ, GTX 1660 6G. 500 GB hard drive. Its awesome, you will never have any lag issues again!

Thanks! Basically, any machine with a dedicated GPU will work. Of course, there are options available and it's up to you to determine how much money you want to spend. I'm running an 8th-Gen Core i7 with a GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q in my laptop with 32 GB RAM (I upgraded from 16 GB which was actually plenty, but I had some physical corruption so I needed to replace it), and I can get over 100FPS and almost no lag when planting (medium settings). This looks very good on my 15.6 in 1080P display panel. It's adequate on my larger 24 inch 1080P monitor, and I still have plenty of GPU power left over for encoding and streaming on the same machine. Better options are available to give you sharper images. If you want to go with a higher resolution - 2K/1440p, for example, you'd probably need something more powerful than a GTX 1060. AMD GPUs and Ryzen processors are also good, so don't lock yourself into aparticular brand. PGA TOUR 2K21 is a GPU-intensive game, so if that's your focus, you can stand to skimp on the processor if you need to save a few bucks. If you're looking to play other games, there are several that are CPU-intensive (CS:GO comes to mind), so you definitely would want to make sure the processor is up to speed too.

Amazing explanation, thank you very much! It’s been hard to consider cause I’m only imagining what the benefit would be and what it would take to really make the investment worth it. As many of you I’m sure feel, I’m completely addicted to designing and pretty much cannot live without it, but it’s pretty painful when you hit that lag constantly. Love my XB but feel I’ve hit it’s limits. Thank you!

So basically whatever you spend on the PC you spend on the graphics card. Just wish I could stretch to a nVidia GeForce RTX 3090.
