Trying to find the best balance.
With the release of the Titleist clubs, I dig the grey irons. They have a bit more forgiveness than I need, but the shot shaping is spectacular without having to use purple Callaways with horrible swing plane/ok forgiveness.
The grey irons for example stretch from 138yds to 184yds. The gap between that and 3i (215) is 31yds which is very large. Assuming putting a hybrid in there to bridge that gap, you lose another iron/wedge.
What’s the most balanced club selection look like without making a big sacrifice? I like the distance of the gold Titleists as well but wish they had better shot shaping. Maybe I’m a bit too focused on shot shaping here I don’t know.
Appreciate any help, thank you!

There's not really a reason to have any true gaps from 3h on down if you play with the setups enough. You need to find out what shaping does for yardage on your clubs to find the real yardage range you can cover. For example, I use the purple Callaway irons for the distance, but use more forgiving wedges. That leaves me a big gap between my 9i (153) and PW (128), but full loft and spin can take 19 yards off my 9i and some de-loft on a PW easily adds distance so I don't really have a gap there in actual play.

Hmm, that’s a good point. The grey Titleist clubs have the same shot shaping capabilities (helping bridge those gaps I’d assume because of max iron shot shaping) but don’t cut the swing plane and forgiveness in half compared. The purple Callaway are the only club with distance that get that level of shot shaping. I’d like to keep my 215yd 3 iron as it’s a life saver and good all-around club to have. Hybrids take too much of a penalty for me. So assuming I keep these Titleist clubs, my gaps look like this: D 292 3W 243 3i 215 4i 184 5i 176 6i 166 7i 156 8i 148 9i 138 PW 126 GW 117 SW 103 LW 90 The gap right now between my 3i and 4i is massive. I can use higher forgiveness clubs (gold Titleist, gold Bridgestones, gold mizunos, purple TaylorMade) which also have nice swing planes, but the shot shaping really sucks. Should I bite the bullet on shot shaping (purple Callaway swing plane is the smallest which is struggle with more than forgiveness) so I can get those gaps better or use a club in between the two and take out a wedge or something? Edit: if I remove the PW, I can make my gap wedge 120 which would leave an 18Yd gap between GW and 9i which can easily be filled in with shot shaping leaving me what, a 199 hybrid to even split that gap between 3i and 4i?

I mean it all depends on what works best for you. Swing plane isn't a big issue for me especially on pro, so I don't really factor that in. You have only one club to fill a 60 yard gap between your 3w and 4i. I think you should add a 220ish hybrid and some longer irons before you worry about wedges, tbh.

Hmm would you mind sending your setup and yardages so I can gauge gapping a bit better? I do appreciate your responses. I could run this as well: D 295 3W 245 3H 229 3i 215 4i 194 5i 185 6i 176 7i 166 8i 157 9i 147 I could use max wedges and start with GW here for a 132 after 9i

jazzyjp As an example, Purple TM P90's 9i with max spin/max angle @96% (4 to 8s hold at top swing) lands 132 and stops at 134 on medium firm greens. Purple Hogans have a greater distance rating but more spin, and when you max spin/max angle @96% with that 9i you land 132 and stops at 133. I'd imagine if you used max spin/angle @96% with a 147 club, you'd probably land in the range of 128 and stop at 130ish. Just sayin'!, there's really no reason to have any gaps from LW to 9i. So Max Spin/Angle with 9i's in conjunction with top spin on any PWs will ensure you never have a gap.

Do you think max shot shaping is necessary on irons? Also, for Pro, what clubs do you use? Where do your gaps lie?

I need to make a new 2K21 account with no calibration and then I'll do some testing and get back to you. Probably take a few hours, even with my XP course to get enough coins to test everything I want. I'll make a short video showing the results.

Is this in regards to calibration? Gapping and shot shaping?
