Having the scout cam on is the only way you can see the green grid from an approach. That is essentially like having the green maps in your back pocket.

SkyBlueBen , I see above you have "course yardage - book only". I've just been experimenting with some settings (after 12 months!!) and did wonder what this was. When I set it to Off it still shows distance and elevation in the HUD. Only when I turn off "Distance & Info position" in the Display & HUD category does the yardage disappear. Can you provide a bit more detail around the course yardage setting in Difficulty category. Thanks With both Course yardage book only and aim marker off this is the view you get from the tee... ...note no distance information is given in the UI. You need to open up the course yardage book which has a moveable arrow to calculate distances to certain areas. Also you don't get the elevation information. That needs to be judged. ....not a big ask of the elite players but a few things extra to consider. This would be just for the Pro Tours only for me, not CC.

Will look into the no-aim marker and may set up another event tomorrow. Late now so going to bed! No aim marker is the way to go! Shots through the green are that little bit more difficult and putting is a little more challenging. Might take the "mathematics" away a little bit when putting. To me it feels like a different game esp. with this off. It's not as much target golf. I find the putting more challenging now that you don't have the marker to dial things in. my preference would certainly be... Aim marker - OFF lie grid - ON (although I could live with it OFF but I still think it's important to give some gauge for severe slopes to club up and down) green grid - ON scout cam - ON everything else as previously suggested. Still don't know why we don't play wind meter only without direction and speed. IRL you don't have a wind speed meter strapped to your bag.

I think it's a good call for the Pro tours but probably a bit much for CC where you have a bigger spread of skill levels. It does offer a difficulty progression up the Tours while still retaining one swing level and easy to set up in society.

A very valid point but I played Beer League this year for the best part of 2020. Made all cuts but generally finished middle of the field shooting anywhere between -10 to -30 for a tourney but I'd feel more than comfortable CC without the aim marker. I've played 2 rounds now and this is the way I will be playing solo and ghost rounds from this point forward. Really enjoyable and the closest thing Ive experienced to SIM without going TST.

Tour: Challenge Circuit

We've created a couple of test events to see if there are options we can tweak to make the tours a bit more difficult while using the Pro swing. Please play and provide some feedback. Keep in mind I'm going into this thinking we'll keep the same settings from the season just ending (but with Pro Swing) but wanted to give you all a chance to try some out to see if the shoe fits better.
Challenge Circuit 1st event: No Scout Cam, No Lie Grid, Pro Swing 2nd event: No Lie Grid, Pro Swing
Each event is 2 rounds and lasts 3 days.
Still showing Masters in the difficulty section in ghe Society I am on Xbox

I like that - but not a fan of having to gauge the elevation. Pretty sure that would be too much for a lot of people. Having to use the yardage book for yardages is good, and creates a good shot making process, but - the yardage book is a glitchy old thing, and is imperfect in a lot of ways. Sometimes you get a good view of greens complexes, others not so much, and sometimes it's really hard to see, depending on the course lighting. If it was just done a little better, I'd be more than happy to play this way. I'd be happy to play no aim marker, personally - But I'd also be happy with no green grids and scout cam on (It's really not as hard as it's made out to be, especially nowadays as we have much better graphics and tv's than we did years back). I can't see no aim marker being adopted, purely because so many people that are vociferously against grids off then can't aim with a specific point on the green grid... I propose absolutely no changes bar pro swing for all CC levels.
Pro tours definitely need something else imo. - No lie grid: A no brainer in my opinion - it might, maybe, cost you a shot a tournament. You can still see what the terrain is doing, it's just the severity is somewhat less obvious - and people learn.
- Scout cam: Needs to stay - too much of a break from the norm for the majority.
- Green grids off is a cracking way to play (with scout cam on), but nobody's going to buy it, even if it's for the top tours - whether they've tried it or not
Not sure that just removing lie grid is enough of a bump for the pro tours personally, but hey ho.

This is just my opinion, and I haven't played the test events or anything, but I am not a fan of removing lie grid or scout cam. You cannot get a truly accurate read on the slopes of the fairway without the lie grid. There are times where it seems there is no slope, and it's actually yellow or maybe even orange or red, but it's hard to tell due to shadows, lighting, or just because it's a video game on a screen and it's not possible to "feel" the undulations. Even the visuals of the golfer don't always tell the whole story, so you can't rely on that, either. Scout cam needs to be there IMO, too, especially for the approach shots as mentioned in a previous post. If the scout cam is turned off and now players are being asked to play multiple practice rounds to chart the course and greens on their own, I'm not sure how that's going to entice people to come back. Just seems like more work, especially of you're like me and would be playing in the low levels of CC. Just my gut reaction from seeing these settings. Perhaps it will change once I'd try playing the game like this. But to me, it seems like those wanting to play the game like this, using fewer aids, could just play True Sim Tour. agree with both of these. You can't determine fairway slopes w/o a lie grid. Also, many great tour courses use fairway slopes to ask players to play a certain line off the tee for an advantage into the green. If the game had a 3d yardage book that indicated fairway slopes, then yes the masses could play w/o scout cam. As somebody who loves using pro grade yardage books in real life anytime I can find one for a course, I can attest that you aren't going to get a few thousand players to play multiple practice rounds and take notes on how to play each hole. If the goal of these changes is to make the game inviting and accessible to as many players as possible, scout cam is mandatory. Lie grid is secondary...but having it off may create a nuisance that wears on players over time.

If we are going true sim just to have pro swing then I'm out. Sorry, I'm not in it for a "real" golf experience. I like video golf.

Enjoyed the set up for 1st the CC event.
Scout Cam OFF (obviously won't happen due to PC issue) hopefully it will be UI OFF. Lie grid OFF (shouldn't be that big an issue for anyone).
I like the look of Aiming Marker OFF, but it could be a bit too much for CC players. Maybe that's a setting for moving up to the top tiers (E/K/P)?

Up for:
- Lie grid off - you get plenty of info with the way the ball rolls whilst not having surety of lies to reduce chip-in likelihood and increase proximity. - Scout cam on - unfortunately, unless putting grid off - Putting grid on - as much as I’d like it off there are too many negatives. TST would be unnecessary, and if it’s only off for the pro tours it creates a skill gap that may cause a negative loop with newly promoted players. - Aim marker on - you can work out where to aim using the yardage book so this then only really impacts chips/putts, which then just becomes a click contest.

Not sure there has been a single suggestion that would be the case from anyone that has the power to make it so. The only current serious suggestion seems to be that lie grid might go.
